That is correct...once they develope their roots the geese will leave them alone, I used to have two of them and loved them but the bigger I got the more they became....now my chickens just scratched but if I had my seedlings watch out, they would eat them as they look and I guess taste like a gourmet grass to them. No do not have the chickens anymore.

Oh where is my Alpaca and dwarf donkey...LOL

My geese were a mated pair that laid way too many eggs, and their names were Annie and Andy, finally had to get rid of them because Andy could be mean...if Annie had eggs and I was the only one that could get him to be nice for awhile

"Wild " geese are so numerous here they are like deer and squirrils.
There has been a lot written about their habits and how to get rid of them before they cause accidents and befowel the parking lots.
We had a flock at the clinic where I worked. Every day someone had to power wash the lot so patients could get out of their cars without tracking into the clinic. The county had some pros come and give workshops to various interested partys. They arent as much of a nuisence now that the ponds have a black shirt and people are banned from feeding them.

Iris, I don't have fond memories of geese and childhood, LOL! When we visited someone who had white geese, I got the raised wings and threatening rush. I wasn't too thrilled, and I never forgot it :o)

Jo Ann, we see more geese now, than we have ever seen in our whole life.

I've read that grape jelly repels them. I'd hate to have to clean off a parking lot daily!

What is a black shirt?

We have tons of wild geese. We have a swamp on our property and they land in it when migrating. But I've never dealt with the pet geese like this lady has.

Eew yuck, Jo!

I meant to say Black skirt around the pond. Geese wont go over it .

The local ones that make such a mess ,dont migrate.
Why would they, people feeding them.
There are scouts who shake eggs in the spring. This keeps the chicks from hatching and the female wont lay again if she has eggs.
She just doesnt realize there will not be babies until its too late to breed again for this season.

My geese were the grey and white farm geese...

Jo we have tons and tons of Canadain Geese and let me tell you they do a ton of damage, as the farmers would like to get rid of them because at times you look out at a field and wonder what all of that odd color it is and then you know it is a grain field or grass field covered in geese! Being in Linn County OR which is the grass seed capital of the USA we hate geese...

Too bad they do not do that here...then maybe the population would go done big time.. and I never knew about this ...thank you for letting me know.

There was an attempt to retard hatching by oiling the eggs. I dont think that method lasted. We have many Malls and industries with parking lots and water features. Water features because in far suburbs they need an emergency supply for fire protection. Geese love it. The black skirts dont lend much appeal.

Sorry about sending you our geese irisloverdee *Blush* We hate them too so please don't send them back Whistling We use dogs to chase them in the urban parks and golf courses so they can't nest but that doesn't help the farmers any Sad
