Ok going by what I read early this morning when I joined I need to come here and introduce myself.
I go by mibus2 ( I drive a school bus and have for 20 yrs.)
I'm what is called a damned yankee cause I moved to Texas 6 yrs ago and am still here. Moved from northern IL.
I love iris's and have the notebook of my grandma's that lists all the iris's she grew but to find them all now is not easy but maybe someday I will.

And this is miss Millie my Chihuahua.

Thanks I have already been surfing through the forums and such
I have iris's in my front bed and we are getting ready to add a walkway from the drive to the door so that means I have to move everything but the gardenia's and azalea's.
I want to avoid losing any if I can so I am reading all I can to make sure I have my bases covered lol
just hope the tags I put on the named ones are still there some place.
I'm thinking I will move them in with the roses to give them some shade next summer in the afternoon.

Howdy right back, Mibus! And welcome to our group(s)! I'm also a damned Yankee -- having moved from the Chicago suburbs to western Kentucky . We've been here a long time though -- 27 years -- so at this point, I think we're only half-damned!! Big Grin

You're going to love it here -- nice people, and lots of beautiful photos and expert input on our favorite topic.

Miss Millie is adorable, and my Maddie sends a doggie *how d'ya do*!!

Welcome, Mibus. Love the pooches! That is really cool that you have grandma's notebook. I have another iris buddy in Oklahoma who is rebuilding his grandmother's iris collection from her notes. What a fun thing to do.
I love historic irises and grow many of them- really old ones right down through the 1980s. I'd like to hear which do well for you, because I have several that grow everywhere but in my yard!

I grew up in Urbana IL but moved to Texas from Belvidere IL we have family in both places still but don't make it up often to visit but my folks come down twice a year for now until my dad can't any more which sadly to say may be coming sooner then we want.
my grandmother raised and sold African violets but she always had alot of flowers outside not to mention a huge veggie garden and her note book has stuff ranging form poinsettias to soil mix for violets pots to buy to numerous newspaper clippings

Her list is ( if I put a ? it is because I am not sure what the word is that is suppose to be there)
Cascade Splendor-light copper and pink orange beard yellow arms
Red Torch - 2 tone gold bronze, falls pure red ?
Rocket - deep chrome yello & falls orange
Vatican - Purple blue purple crisply flaring ?
Rose Top - Cream with deep rose & edged in richer rose
Pink Cameo - shell pink
Minnie Colquitt - ruffled white with wine purple
Lockwood - Bright red brown with blue ? falls
Frost Glint - Blue/white, ruffled standard & flaring falls
Desert Song - Bright creamy yellow ruffled
Grand canyon - deep tone of plum copper and gold falls
Rainbow Room - yellow & rainbow colors blue at center

I know I have russet Wings, Indian Chef, Mellon sunrise and blue boy as I wrote them down but the tags that I put with them are gone so its wait and see what ones bloom what colors next spring to remark them
and I have a couple that I bought 2 yrs ago but the tags are on them outside right now LOL

No I haven't but I am going to start mapping cause even with markers by them things disappear or hubby tosses it with weeds LOL

I'll also add to the list as I have the tags on these
before the storm
English charm
pass the wine

When it's time for planting I'll have to find out prices so I can slowly start getting the ones on my grandmothers list :-)

Are you familiar with Superstition iris? They carry a lot of the historics, and our Dee (Snowpeak) will be this year, too.

Nope I'm not
A couple years ago I started trying to find the list and ran across a couple of them, but before I could order I lost my job and have been working 2 jobs so my time has been limited along with money to order anything and now I don't even think I have the websites I found before

Here's Superstition web site. Scroll down to find historics. To get prices, you need to order a catalogue, but they are very reasonable. Most 5.00 or less for the historics.

Dee, I just can't wait. You know how I love historics.

Mibus, I'm trying to recreate my Aunt Helens garden, but I don't have a list. It was in the early 60s and I was a kid, and she was dragging me to the iris grower every chance she got. She's one of those lovely people you can't think of without crying. But I know she saved and saved to get a new intro and a few others each year, so I'm aiming at 50s and early 60s. So we can recreate together.
