Hello all. I 'm Val from Melbourne, Australia.
I have been an avid Iris fan for a few years now and have about 100 plants I think. (I haven't counted them lately). A lot of them are in pots because I like to move them up near the house when they're in bloom and somewhere out of sight for the Winter. I usually alternate them with roses in pots. I have also got several in flower beds, anywhere that I can squeeze one in! I have a fairly large garden which I redesigned when I moved here 7 years ago. I had a passion for roses then, and they were my main interest. However, I found them difficult to keep healthy, they get a lot of fungal diseases here. So as they became sick and weak I disposed of them. I still have quite a few though.I also grow Fuchsias, Dahlias, Orchids and Succulents. The Spring bulbs are making an appearance now, which cheers my Winter blues away. There are some fruit trees here also, which I enjoy.
It's nice to find a dedicated Iris forum, and you all sound so friendly, so I look forward to reading more of your posts and posting mine too, plus photos. Only a few weeks to go till September when I will see blooms!!

Hi Val.....nice to have you here. This is a nice group of friendly people. Its fun to think of you anticipating your approaching bloom season when is just a pleasant memory for another year here. I'd be interested to know the names of a few cultivars you grow. Australian varieties or ones from America? Or England. And we just love pictures. Looking forward to your future posts Thumbs up

Thanks for your welcome Paul2302 and irisarian! I would love to post photos of my irises, I take hundreds of them!
I am lucky enough to live fairly close to the Tempo Two iris farm, owned by the Blyth family. I find their names everywhere in rhe iris world online. So I have got quite a few of theirs and I visit the farm every year on the open days. I never leave empty handed!
A few of my cultivars are, in no paricular order,
Ming Lord, Autumn Circus, Haute Couture, Pretty Edgy, Millenium Falcon, Deep Dark Secret, Crimson Snow, Holy Night, Frosted Rose, Lavender Park, In a Kiss, Pebble Fresh, Royal Honey, Thunderstick, Cheerful One, Triple Whammy, Wedding Vows, Neo Classic...... Etc
I am just listening to the pouring rain, we have had so much of it lately, and I picture my poor Irises drowning! As soon as it's dry enough I rush out to clear debris from the iris containers to help them not to succumb to rot. I have lost a few like that.
More later.....

Hi Val-

Welcome. Melbourne is a beautiful city. What area are you in? I am there about every eighteen months in South Melbourne for a week. I've always missed the Tempo Two open houses by a few weeks. Sad

What a treat it must be to visit Tempo Two. Blyth iris are well loved and in demand here. I grow a number of them and added Captain Thunderbolt and Serena Louisa to my garden this year. I also won best specimen at our Utah Iris Society show this year with another Bluyth iris, Merry Amigo. I took rhizomes of Merry Amigo and Adoree to our recent auction and they sold well. Here are some Blyth iris which I grow.

Hi Val! Welcome to our little (now international) corner of the world! Big Grin

How lucky you are to be near Tempo Two Gardens, and see Blyth Irises in person. The rest of us have to content ourselves with catalog pictures. Regardless, I have managed to collect a few, which I prize highly.

I can't wait to see your pictures! Thumbs up

Neil, I live on the Mornington Peninsula, close to Port Phillip Bay.
Paul, I love your blooms, in particular Puff the Magic and Another Woman.
Here are a few of mine. Unfortunately the photos I'd like to post are not appearing to be available to do that. They are on my Picasa albums but I can't find them on the hard drive. This makes no sense to me. Anyway, not long before I can take new ones!

Thankyou Muddymits, PollyK and Shannon.
I do intend to post my Iris photos as they start to bloom. Actually, the purple one on the top RHS is in bloom at the moment, just a single stem on each of 3 plants with about 4 buds.I don't know it's name, I think it might be Germanica, not sure.
Here it is today.

Do you still call irises germanica down there? Here, for some reason, which Lucy could explain, we don't use germanica, anymore, just iris.

But what I'm interested in, since we don't use germanica, do we still use pallida, such as Iris pallida Princess Beatrice?

Sorry to get off topic! Oh, Lucy.
