Yes, very true that this is a good thing to do systematically, label photos in such a way that there is no doubt to the owner's name---but I was foolish in the past. This is still not an excuse for photo theft or crediting a photo to another photographer. Needless to say, I am not particularly interested in sending photo files to the AIS with registration info!
Obviously people are not respecting set rules for posting photos on the iris wiki. I've read remarks about how reluctant people are to send photos of newly registered plants and I can understand why!
Name: Dee Stewart Willamette Valley OR Snowpeak Iris
Many a time people copy my photos, now if it is not for commercial and they have asked I will tell them yes, but to steal it. The few that I have copied from the internet are ones that I have brought and wait to see the same one bloom in my own garden for reference then I delete the owners picture and use mine.
That is why now all my pictures have SPI on them where I think it would be harder to delete it. I hate the copywrite or watermark as sometimes destroys the true beauty of the iris
I still have not received my yellow introduction cards from John Jones and here it is April. Very disappointing
I guess what it boils down to is folks not being courteous enough to ASK PERMISSION before they use photos, post them somewhere, share them or whatever. But they don't ask, or very, very rarely. Sign of modern times, I suppose, but asking someone's permission is a rapid sort of thing to do these days, too. I had, however, expected better from a part of the AIS website in terms of asking permission. This business of removing accents from French language names is something I totally fail to understand.
Update: Apparently the board of directors of the AIS is going to discuss the problems I complained about concerning the iris wiki during the board meeting on the occasion of the convention in Portland. I guess I'll believe it when I see some results!
Yes, I use this site extensively. I always hope for more photo's of the Iris I'm interested in and more information then they seem to provide about the iris, but I do use this site a lot
in addition to the HIPS website Gallery to gain information on the Historics I'm interested in growing.

I am not using the site to the fullest. I may be dense but when I look up an iris and there is no photo I rely on the description of color. When the site uses terms for color like R41, or something like that, it means nothing to me. Without a photo or a description of color I just have to wait until it blooms to find out if it is yellow or purple.
