The bed with Katharine Hodgkin is clear of snow, but the path to it lied beyond the snow in the driveway which was dumped by the plow doing the driveway. We have 2 cute little crocus flowers next to the house, but the 'snow crocus' are still under same.
Well, I've still got a few I. reticulate blooming, but they are winding down.....so it's a good thing I saw this today !:
they are actually two different iris here....sort of!...the first 2 are from a plant I've grown for years, and the last two from a plant I traded for...sight unseen,...last year....and it appears that they are one and the same, as far as cultivar goes! I just wish I knew WHAT cultivar . I am *thinking* it MAY be a species...like a kind of pumila, for example...but I don't know enough about those to even really guess
Here's what's colorful, today:
park noid.....this is what I posted above, but really putting on a show, now !
Alpine Lake
Blue Doll
Knick Knack
NOID #1
Noid #3
a couple of these should look familiar to you, as well, Bonnie! I'm really liking Knick Knack !
sorry the pics aren't better...I'm too "stiff & sore" to get down where they are !!
It was growing ,happily, at our "old" house, when we bought it in 1971......and , at that time, they installed a "memorial planter" at the village park, which is just across the street. I took a small piece, and planted it in the planter....where it's grown , ever since. When we moved here, rather than take some from 'home', I took some from the planter....needed thinned anyway !!.....and so, "Park Noid". If I had a $1 for every time I've seen someone 'steal" a piece out of that planter........I could have retired MUCH earlier !!! At last year's car show (held at the park) ,lots of folks walked over to see the iris, and several, when I told them I had a bed to "dig" later in the summer, wanted to be called to get some 'starts"....One lady, when she came to pick up her iris, brought me a "start" of "her favorite'......a "little purple one", that she had gotten "somewhere"....When it bloomed this spring....on the same day as "Park Noid"....it proved to be the same iris....and I'm betting it came from the same place , originally . Anyway, the clump pictured is 2 years old, and came from 4 rhizomes....it needs divided this year, and the "planter" at the park needs attention, as well.......so?
You got it ! If you're interested , I'll be digging several more Dwarfs this year, as well....and one re'bloomer bed needs separated, too. We'll "talk" again, after bloom/before diggin' time ! I've probably got a few more in bloom this morning, but I haven't been out yet....the hot tub has me in it's clutches
