cross-posted.........Yeah, 5a it is ! Spring came early this year by more than 2 weeks ! And, "zone number" really doesn't mean very much ! It's based on 'how cold does it get", NOT how long it's cold !The number of "frost free" days is, IMHO, much more relevant , but they (USDA) don't "chart" that. I'm "guessing", or maybe "hoping" it is herbicide drift affecting the color...if not, I don't think I really have Baby Snowflake ![]() |

Number of days at or above some certain temperature is probably a better measure for sure. Apache is showing a bloom stalk, despite being moved last year. One of my few "Indian" or Native American named ones. |
I. germanica has stalks, and I see a couple IB's starting to form fat leaves, but the MDB's are about gone, and the SDB's are starting to really go ! n "extra warm", or" extra cool", couple od days, makes a BIG difference, this time of year! We started the iris season way early, and I'm curious to see if that trend continues all season, or, if Mother Nature checks her calendar ,and gets back in line ! |

Irises are seemingly just leaves, not containing stems (at least the early plants which I have inspected). Even the batch of Snow Maiden which Arlyn sent to me seem sparce & he sent a batch. just a few leaves showing there. the older clump above them is full of leaves, but I wonder about the flowers. We have Baby Snowflake & the flowers are quite white, if you need a start, Arlyn. |

I'll take you up on that, Lucy ! I'm sure mine must be "wrong"....it's just too "cream colored'...I'll know better when (and IF) a flower opens normally, but with all the buds 'showing yellow" ![]() ![]() A better picture of Reddy Set.....colors are more normal today ![]() Autumn Orange ![]() Red At Last caught these before they "went to pot" ! ![]() Cimarron Rose being shy ![]() Earth And Sky ![]() Plicutie ![]() Indian Pow Wow |

Thank you for the picture of Reddy Set. It's looking better than mine. they need to be divided here & their bed redone & just have too much else to do. |
I noticed that it (and almost every other SDB, for that matter) wasn't 'the right color" on the first bloom, or two.....maybe Round Up drift, or, maybe the cool snap we had ![]() ![]() |

Reddy Set is a beauty. I have Elfin Shadows ordered for this year. Arlyn, your Autumn Orange is lovely too. The peach/orange SDB I have that is doing well is Lenna M. It had a long bloom period and I hope it increases. I had one named Peach Cooler but it did not bloom and it gave up last week. I may replace it once. if it does not do well then I will not try to grow it here. sigh |
Beautiful little ones Arlyn! Lucy, I love the yellow rim and hafts on Reddy Set. ![]() |

oh dear-you too, Marilyn. I am trying to bring the red all the way to the edge of the fall. It is a case of enlarging the red spot. My vision of what to do seems different than other people. ![]() But please, thank you for your comment. On other seedlings I seem to be losing the red. very uncoropertive plants. |
This one is the 'supposed to be Baby Snowflake':![]() ![]() I don't think it is ! What do you say, Lucy ? It doesn't seem 'white" enough, and the haft markings don't seem to match the pics on the Twiki. ![]() Baby Blessed ![]() Blue Denim ![]() Brom Bones.....tell John he did good !! ![]() Bugsy |
![]() Cherry garden ![]() Easy Style ![]() Flower Shower ![]() Gingerbread Man ![]() I. lutescens......this thing has real substance....it lasts, and lasts ! ![]() Indian Pow Wow.....getting to be very impressive, as the clump gets larger! ![]() another "4" on Jewel Baby....that's 3 blooms, 2 of which had 4 falls ! ![]() Knotty Pine ![]() Little Mohee ![]() Oddbod ![]() Reddy Set..........I like this one more, and more, Lucy....even WITH the edging on the falls ![]() ![]() Stitch Witch....this one is growing on me, too ! ![]() Tantara isn't that beard GREAT ?! ![]() Truly......the 'blues"are back ! ![]() Yankee Skipper and while not individually credited, I want to thank all those "iris Buddies" that helped in the production of this post ![]() ![]() only a couple open, but look at the "coming attractions" on Snow Maiden !! |
I usually just lurk on Cubits, but I really am enjoying seeing more of your blooms Arlyn! You have some beauties. Really like Indian Pow Wow. ![]() |
It probably could stand a 'splitten", Leslie....just sayin'................. |

OMG, I LOVE Oddbod!! ![]() ![]() You are free to choose. You are not, however, free from the consequences of your choice. ========================= http://debra96.wix.com/green-amber-gardens |

Me too, Debra. That one is remarkable for a little guy. You have some great ones, Arlyn. |
Wouldja look at the beards on Gingerbread Man!!! ![]() ![]() Every day is a second chance. Every day is precious time. |
I hope Brom Bones reblooms for you in the fall. Late in Oct. here. Doesn't look like Baby Snowflake to me. I will chick it when it flowers here. Your garden is getting full of Burton stuff. Thank you for the R.S. photo. Quite nice in your garden. Ours are getting crowded, will have to see if we have time to fix it this summer. |
I sure would appreciate your checking on your baby Snowflake! The buds on this one have a definite ,light, lemon color, before they open.....and a 'light cream' color after they do. I suppose some "could' call it white...but when you compare, to say, Snow maiden.....to MY eye, they ARE cream ![]() A couple more "Burtons" coming this year, too , from Winterberry. |
