Well, the "bulb iris" were 12 days earlier than last year, and the bearded started 2 days later than they did last year . We started off this year with 'warmer than normal" temps....but that soon changed to "colder than normal", so I suppose that's the reason the date's vary so much. Now, we're back to "warmer than normal "(they say 81 for a high, today !), so, I guess I shouldn't wonder why the iris are having problems......I'm sure it's as stressful for them, as it is for me !
My noid SDB pictured earlier is the earliest I have ever had a bloom-mid April! But it is also the first SDB I have had, but not by my choosing. I do like it, supplier does not know what it is. Will have to move it to front of some area so it is better viewed next season. Now it is in row 4 behind Sass TB's as that is what it was supposed to be.

Everyone, you only need the 2nd date. that is the date of introduction. the first is the date of registration. Our Blue Doll is showing color. It should be open tomorrow or the next day.
The AIS has changed the "style" of listing the registration date, and the introduction date, several times, over the years. The "correct" way, now, would be
Brom Bones 1989 (John Burton II R.1988)
"reading" the iris checklists is really an "art unto itself", as the early ones listed a LOT of information, and all ....or at least most.....of it was designated by a sort of "code ". The AIS has simplified it a lot....which is a 'good thing", I suppose, but, some of that 'information isn't listed, now. I wish I was better at deciphering the listings.....without constantly looking up the "meanings" of the code symbols
The old code for colors became useless with the new forms of color began showing up after WW II when people could really grow flowers instead of food. A good deal of research on the colors as well as the emergence of true (flamingo) pink. then other colors which were hiding in the flowers appeared.

Beautiful blooms, Arlyn. Thanks for sharing.
If I post one date I get messages correcting me so I put both dates in and don't get messages. But thank you for letting me know the introduction date is the important one to list. Sort of like the date of the irises coming out party.
I had several more open today....but, no pictures, yet ! Too busy with other things....I didn't even work on "iris salvage". Closest I got was mowing around them . I did get two wheel on the 5th wheel done.....bearings serviced, brakes adjusted, and new tire on.........hopefully , I can finish that job up on Monday!
Rita wants a 'different " door on the south end of the building....one that can accept a 'storm door".....she wants to be able to have a "screen door", in the summer. So, went to town, bought a door.....and ordered the 'storm / screen door she wants, and , Monday evening a "contractor buddy' of mine is coming to start the project (he gets to do the 'heavy work" ), and I'll just be his 'go fer". But, first thing tomorrow....while I'm "fresh" (and can still bend down to do it !......I'll get some iris pictures !!!

I like glass doors and storm doors with screens so the cool late evening breezes can refresh the whole house. I like to sit in the dark with the screen door latched and listen to the night birds, frogs and crickets. Lately I have been hearing coyotes.
Midas Mite bloomed today as well as my own pumila seedling. When we had windows replaced & a new front door, it was one without a screen. However it opens opposite the stairs & we can get a good cross draft from the east & west windows in the living room.
All from Arlyn over the last 2 years appear to be doing fine; got a good start. Season here is about 1-2 weeks ahead of last year with some TB's budding before many IB's, completely confused. The one [surprise] dwarf was quick, early and is over with only 2 blooms. It will have to get moved to a front row seat in the front.
