I wish we had the little thumbs-up options at the bottom of these posts. So many time I want to say a quick thumbs-up and don't take the time to post a message. So many great iris photos and wise guidance. Smiling

You REALLY need to "go digital" , Lucy Sticking tongue out You can literally take hundreds of pix, pick out the few you want.........and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg for photo processing. AND, they are "available" instantly, and ready to post, or e-mail with no hassles.

I did manage to get outside, for a look ( still raining , but not too hard, although the wind is still terrible !)and things look pretty sad out there Crying ! An old Warburton SDB, "Dessert" still looks more like an iris than a wet mop, so here's it's pic:
Thumb of 2017-04-30/crowrita1/661d9b
and "Ingeborg" a REAL old one, by the firm of Goos & Koenemann, is standing up to the storms pretty well....it's a "short" IB, so that helps against the wind, I guess:

Thumb of 2017-04-30/crowrita1/f6865b
Ingeborg is often confused with Snow Maiden:
Thumb of 2017-04-30/crowrita1/624af5
this one is blooming in the middle of a gravel drive, where, apparently, I dropped a few pieces , last year when I was dividing some Shrug!

It actually seems pretty *variable*, Lucy, with some blooms having no "band" around the fall, at all.....and some have a fairy obvious one. I'm "thinking"....at least as much as my pea brain can handle, anyway !....that the difference is related to the ambient temperature, to a degree ( Rolling my eyes. ), but more to how many blooms are open....somehow Shrug! . When it first opens blooms.....starting with just one, or two...they are "rimless", then as more open, and the clump really is full of flower....they have a wider edge. Then, as bloom wanes, and it's back to just one or two (just before it stops blooming Sad ), the rim disappears , again. And, blooms developing in extra warm weather *seem* to have more of an edge than those developing when it's "frosty".
I could be all wet on this, but, I've watched it now, for several years, and I have it in several places (it IS a prolific little plant !!), with different amounts of sun / shade and soil fertility. The blooms that look the most "red" (to my eye, at least) are the "banded" ones....the one's showing less edge seem a bit more to the 'purple" color, than red, also, when the bloom is "fresh" ..it seems more "purple-ish", and reddens as it ages .
Even with those slight differences in bloom, it's a *Dandy*....prolific in bloom and increase, very hardy as far as disease goes (it REALLY gets tested for that in MY garden Sticking tongue out ),and has an unusual color scheme...which really draws the eye , and makes it stand out in the bed !! All in all..."Ya' did good, Lucy Thumbs up !
