It IS a nice iris!.....want some??? I knew I had two pretty large clumps of it, already....and found it in ANOTHER place, this morning, so, I have "plenty" . I got as a "wrong iris" several years ago, and didn't realise it WAS wrong for a couple years .It's definitely a "good doer" !
Here's a few from this morning......some I don't think I've posted, already:
AMETHYST FLAME (Schreiner 1957 / 58 ) Dykes Medal in1963
AWESOME ALEX (Burseen 2003 / 04)
Mrs. Willard Jacques (J. Sass 1938)
New Moon (Sexton 1968) Dykes Medal in1973
GREAT LAKES (Cousins 1938) Dykes Medal in1942
RAMESES (Hans Sass 1928 ) Dykes medal in1932
RIPPLING WATERS (Fay 1961 ) Dykes Medal in1966
SHANNOPIN (Pillow 1939 / 40)
Wompanog Warrior (Hedgecock 2014)
I think your historic bed is getting "right-sized".
It seems to me many of the historics tolerate growing conditions in a bigger area of the country (and world). Many pre-date the term "global warming" and thrive weather cold, hot, rainy, dry. I guess they're tough, like many of our ancestors.
here's some of the last:
CITY OF LINCOLN (Hans Sass 1936)
HEATHER HAWK (Gibson 1965 /66)
MANISTEE LADY (Lyons 1998)
RODEO BLUE SPU
SHELFORD GIANT SPU
SUNNY DAY SPU
Can't remember if I ever sent that one to you, or not, Ed ….but That's one that I'm digging for HIPS, so if you want some, I'll see you get some ! You, too, Deborah.....I will put some in your box of Knotty Pine, when it goes out. As near as I can figure, I put the wrong zip code, on your other box....so, *someday* it will probably come back here ! I send...AND receive...so many boxes of irises, that I truly DON'T know, "what's coming, and what's going" !
Nibelungen (wish I understood German!) is a super fine grower, and bloomer, for me. And stands up well to most iris "calamities ", as well.
Name: Deborah Orangeburg, SC Zone 8a Don't Sweat the Small Stuff!
Rain all around us, but not on us. I went to town to pick up some dinner this and big drops fell as I was returning. So I rushed back home, opting not to go to my friends house (she's out of town) to water her flower borders. Not another drop all evening, but storm warnings are showing on the tv for a couple of counties away. My borders look terrible, as I haven't been outside much due to the heat alert/heat wave (with high humidity) which finally broke yesterday. It was making my asthma flare up.
Thanks for adding Nibelungen, (that's quite a mouthful) Arlyn.
Ed, here in midstate SC, it's either feast or famine, when it comes to rain. With the high heat, things dried up pretty quickly.
2 inches of rain overnight but if thunder, didn't hear it. grass & weeds have been growing, but new lawn mower arrived today so John will have something to play with.
