Well...actually, it started EARLIER ! I'd been watching the pumilas, as they are always the first, but, I guess I wasn't watching close enough ! Found one, partially dried up bloom, on one clump! Too "far gone" for a decent picture, but, there should be some "fresh ones", very soon !
I lost two of the pumila plants, over the winter, and while I'm not positive of the reason, I *think* I need to blame the outfit that does the lawn care, at the "house lot". I'm just guessing, but I think they may have hit them with "weed & feed" spray, last fall ! They were planted on the edge of the bed, right next to one another, so, one "slip" would have got them both ! One....my so called "park noid", isn't a big issue, as I have it in several places. The other , though (Suslik...one of John Burton's) is one I hate to lose !
Thanks, Lucy ! Both those plants were "clumped" to about the size of a dinner plate, and were always really good bloomers. I *had* planned on dividing them, this year. Quite a few of my "little guys" need some division, this season.....some clumps are WAY past due !
absolutely no irises blooming as yet. last year Wild whispers had a flower.
temp keeps going in the 30s after warming up so I DO NOT GO OUT!. 85 does not work for gardening, sorry!
I've been pretty lax with picture taking this spring , but here's a few that caught my eye, today:
Gingerbread Man...…..a very dependable bloomer, even when it's "overcrowded"
Golden Starlet...….getting pretty "old", but still makes a good show !
Sun Sprite....one of Lucy's that always gives me a little extra, on the first, few blooms . This is another that really "shows up" well, in the border.
Reddy Set.....another of Lucy's
Blueberry Tart......always glad to see this one bloom....does pretty good in rebloom, too.
Nice bunch of blooms. Gingerbread Man sure is a fast grower. Sun Sprite has never done that here yet. I didn't know that Blueberry Tart would Rebloom. I'll have to give it a bit of fertilizer this year and see if it will do it here too.
Reddy Set has grown into a large clump for me now, should put on a nice show this year.
Blueberry Tart is a "lethargic" bloomer for me...both spring AND fall...….by lethargic, what I mean is there are never a lot of buds open, at once....just one, or two, at a time....but, that "extends" the season, quite a bit. Some...…..Golden Starlet is a good example....open almost all their flowers ,at once....makes a great show, but it's all over in just a few days
Sun Sprite IS sort of "cheese colored", so you may be on to something, Lucy ! I have several SDB's that almost always throw "4 's" on their first, few blossoms....always figured it was in response to colder temps when the buds were forming, as later blossoms are always "normal" .
Quite a few opening up, this morning ! If the temps stay up, and the rain holds off...should really be showy by the middle of next week ! I only see a "very few" stalks in any of the TB's, yet...still pretty early, here, for them.
Here's some random shots, from this morning:
the dogwood is just about at "full color"...supposed to be "pink", but, I think that's pretty "optimistic "....more of a "dirty white", to me
Tantara definitely needs divided !
Dancing Bunnies isn't the best grower, here, but, It sure is cute !
Bugsy makes a nice "bright spot" in the garden !
the bees are really loving the wild plum tree, this spring !
Big Blue Eyes is just beginning to start growing well...it's been rather a "slow starter" in my beds
the wild strawberries are just finishing up blooming.....won't be long !!
the "tame" strawberries are just starting to blossom
Reddy Set...this is the same blossom I posted a pic of, a few days ago.....really changes in appearance ! NOT ! It's Red Heart !! Pardon my mistake !
what we call "Bluebells"....it's really Virginia Cowslip
Name: Deborah Orangeburg, SC Zone 8a Don't Sweat the Small Stuff!
How did I miss this thread. Arlyn, you irises make lovely clumps. I need to get some Gingerbread Man. And I haven't seen amy of my Tantara. It's on my list.
Here's a few bed shots, I took this morning.....MDB's, of course, are done, the SDB's are on their last stalks, The IB's , and the early TB's are just starting.
Here's Earl of Essex....it's a lot further along than the pecan tree is !
This is "Potawatomie"....a true Indian", it sneaks up on me, every year !
