Feed for growth instead of bloom? I fed too much nitrogen one year and got the most gorgeous clumps of leaves you ever saw for two years running. and talk about rhizomes, it looked like I was trying to grow a cross between irises and potatoes! I had purchased some 'super soil' which is a mixture of all things good for plants then a few months after planting the irises in this nutritious concoction I fed them. no blooms, lots of increase. Had to divide because the new increase grew out of their beds and fat rhizomes were perched up on top of walkways and patio stones.
