| I make a point of placing one nice-sized order each year with one of the main Iris houses -- and usually from the hybridizer's business (like you Arlyn). I realize that trading Irises diminishes sales for all of them -- but I content myself with the thought that as these Irises are shared visually (pictures) on websites like Cubits and ATP, more and more people see them and buy them. Also -- once the hybridizer shares/sells rhizomes of his or hers with other businesses, they are effectively closing the door on income from those cultivars. Another thought -- because I've been gifted some very beautiful and recent cultivars, that has spurred my interest in -- and purchase of -- newer and more expensive varieties. So maybe there's a balance there. Also -- we seem to see people withdrawing from business due to age or illness -- and not from lack of sales. I dunno --  Every day is a second chance. Every day is precious time. |
