Sally -- I'm sorry that you lost your Silverado. ![]() Borers!!!! I've done battle with them when I lived in northern Illinois. They can be defeated, but it's a lot of work. Fortunately, I've not encountered them here in Kentucky -- and pray that I don't. I have so many Irises that I'm not sure I'd be up to the job of dealing with it. I'm so glad that you made your comment about Mother Earth. I bought it about ten years ago. It's bloomed twice. Last summer I moved it to a new location, thinking that it wasn't happy where it was. I suppose it'll be another ten years before it blooms again. Perhaps I should replace it with a more enthusiastic variety, and let Mother Earth quietly slip away......... I didn't think the bloom was anything to write home about, anyway. Your Irises are lovely. I especially like Marooned. So you mostly have the antique varieties? My oldest ones are pretty much from the 70's. I think yours are older than that. Every day is a second chance. Every day is precious time. |
