The Grove Each row of solitary Mercots Ends in blackened indigo And to the east Sunflakes drown In vortices of wasting mist Where cirri straddle Heaven’s meridian Ladders march Three strides apart Then peel off to obscurity In jaws of rustling green Men mount sweat – cured wood Groaning within the long bone Straining from lumbar to shoulder -- the epochal hum and profound collective sigh That baptizes men and dawn alike.
