What wonderful, heartfelt prose. It would be fascinating to walk along the old trails and haunts with you, and hear not only the plant facts, but the personal stories, as well. Your Aunt Bett stories do this well, and this gives us even more insight as to why you can write these stories so well. Although there is nothing like actually being there, is there?
I think you may need to re-orient some of those life's priorities, and plan a yearly return to rejuvenate yourself. It seems to work wonders.
