Hi Bluegrass,

The UF Daylily is named 'Marilyn Grua' and it's named for me! It's a Dan Bachman Daylily and he and his wife, Jackie have "Valley of the Daylilies" just North of Cincinnati, OH. I took that pic at their house. Mine isn't as established as the one there.

I'm in Northern KY, part of the Greater Cincinnati, OH Area.

Me too Sharon!

I have grown a couple of handfuls of Dan Bachman's spidery Daylilies. I've been to their Daylily gardens in the Spring through the Fall and the best time to see the thousands blooming of Daylilies they grow is during their Daylily open house they have every year. It's a week long event, usually the first week of July. They have their own introductions, as well as, other grower's introductions.

Will you remind me when the time gets nearer? Please....

I might like to take a look. How fun that would be!

Yes, I can let you know. Here is from their website.........

Additionally the Valley of the Daylilies "open
house" is tentatively scheduled for Friday, July 2nd. thru Sunday, July 11th. We are easy to
find as we are 1 mile off I-71 at Exit 32, 30 miles north of Cincinnati and 70 miles south
of Columbus. See map on "contact us" page.

Sharon,

You can email the Bachmans to get on their mailing list (free) and you'll not only get their catalog/price list for their introductions, you'll get a postcard from them letting you know when and what time the open house is.

Just wandered in from DG and found a few familiar names but hope to make new friends here. I have been in KY since 1965, lived in Lexington until I retired in 2004. I owned a concrete technology consulting business. Most of my projects were in KY, but were as far afield as Mexico and China.

Our farm is about 40 miles SE of Lexington, right on the Red River, at the dead end of a gravel road. I love the peace and quiet and am having a ball living in the country for the first time in my life. My house is on the left, eldest daughter lives in the house on the right in the picture. My hobbies include weather and bird watching. Love to cook from scratch and live as frugally and lightly on the land as possible.

Sally...Hello!

Oh how beautiful your little area is! Reminds me so much of the area where I grew up in southeast KY. The mountains might have been taller for me, but your picture looks so much like home. I know exactly where the Red River runs. And I love the dead end of gravel roads, except sometimes ours remained ungraveled so it was the dead end of the dirt road!

You moved to Lexington not long after I left and moved to Louisville to teach. I do go back often though, on my way back to the mountains.

So glad you're here. You'll need to keep me supplied with photos, because eventually, I really do want to 'go back home'.

My trees here in western KY are looking very much like those in your picture. I love when the trees begin to bloom.

Thanks for joining us. I'm looking forward to chatting more with you.

Hi Sunfarm!! So glad you made it over here. Your place looks grand. That's a beauty of a garden in your DD's front yard. I love Spring. The forcythias (sp?) really say Spring to me.
