We have some great cooks in our state, and some of them have created unique recipes. Gingerbread and Hot Browns, shucky beans and cornbread are some of my favorites. What are yours and where did they cme from?

Anybody like beer cheese? In response to a request I posted my version under Kentucky Festivals.

Sharon, I loved the Aunt Bett story about apple stack cakes on the other site. At breakfast this morning I asked my DH (who grew up along the Big Sandy) if he had heard of them. He had indeed, and had not had them for more than 50 years. Imagine our surprise, then, when the NPR Morning Edition program we were listening to on the radio had an interview with an author about his book on cake recipes from each of the states. He proceeded to describe the recipe for Tennessee Apple Stack Cake that was very similar to your Aunt Bett's. It was not five minutes after I had told him about your article.
Since I have all the ingredients on hand for your recipe, I suspect I shall have to try it soon just to keep DH happy.

Cute Sally......sounds as if you'll have to make an apple stack cake for sure! It's been a long time since I've had one too.

But I mentioned Lucy's wedding in that article, and she had 3 siblings. Three of the 4 live in Savannah, and whenever I go to visit them, they bake apple stack cake and gingerbread for me! Takes me about 9 hours to drive from here to there, but it really is worth it. Somehow they can duplicate that old flavor....I'm not nearly as good at baking as they are.
