Tea Party Etc. cubit

Victory in the French and Indian War was costly for the British. At the war's conclusion in 1763, King George III and his government looked to taxing the American colonies as a way of recouping their war costs. They were also looking for ways to reestablish control over the colonial governments that had become increasingly independent while the Crown was distracted by the war. Royal ineptitude compounded the problem. A series of actions including the Stamp Act (1765), the Townsend Acts (1767) and the Boston Massacre (1770) agitated the colonists, straining relations with the mother country. But it was the Crown's attempt to tax tea that spurred the colonists to action and laid the groundwork for the American Revolution.

It also resulted in the fabled Boston Tea Party. Today many Americans feel that the Federal Government has lost touch with the citizens in much the same way the "Crown" was out of touch with it's subjects in the colonies. The largely unpopular "healthcare" bill is the latest example of the Federal government acting much like the 18th century British Crown. A vast grass roots movement known as the "Tea Party Movement" has resulted. With no real national leadership, it's ability to function as independent groups is truly amazing. This cubit will try to capture the pulse of the 'Tea Party', report on it's activities and share opinions consistent with that philosophy.

Image 1972 All Over Again?
By Rand Lowe on July 29, 2019

In the late 1960s and early 1970s the Democratic Party was obsessed with one thing, beating Richard Nixon. The party elite and big money donors were lined up, largely, behind "The man from Maine", former Senator and Vice Presidential candidate Edmund Muskie. They hedged their bets only by sending a little support in the direction of former Vice President and failed Presidential candidate Hubert Humphrey. Marginalized by the establishment of the party were candidates like Eugene McCarthy and George McGovern. Who will the Democrats coalesce behind in 2020? Will it be someone from the old guard with name recognition (Biden) or will it be a candidate who embodies the ever-evolving values of the modern Democrats? Will it be 1972 all over again? Who will the Democrats decide can "beat Donald Trump"? Because ultimately, that's all they really want.
