This may be a tricky transition. The MOTH (Man Of The House for those who don't know) has taken all his pre-reqs for nursing school. Because the wait to get in is so long at any school here, he applied at Yavapai College in Prescott. (Also because we'd like to leave this hot, crowded city for some place cooler.) Because we don't already live there, he missed racking up enough points for a direct acceptance and was put on an 'alternate' list in the #2 spot. Last Thursday, he got a call saying he's been accepted into the program - just not at the Prescott campus! Well, yoo-hoo and boo-hoo. They placed him at the Clarkdale campus that is actually between Cottonwood and Clarkdale. Elevation less than 4,000 feet, so hotter than Prescott. To make matters worse, he can - and did - put in a transfer request for the Prescott campus. Now we have no idea where he might land! So how the heck are we to plan to find a place to live??? We don't even know when - or if - they will say 'yes' to the transfer. So here we are with a too-big house with entirely too much Stuff and we can't sell - 'cause we can't buy! Anyone have a bright idea? I'm fresh out. Alma In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. – Thomas Jefferson |

Wow, Alma! This is interesting. I have to think about this a bit... but, my advise, or what I would do, would be in the constant mindset of "how can I make this work for us with the outcome that will benefit us most". I know, it's obvious. However, sometimes we tend to consider the *problem* over the desired outcome. "There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. I have always had the mindset that one should DO something even if it's wrong. I detest endless equivocation. And if there were no extenuating circumstances, i.e., no house, no mortgage, no pets, no GD and GGS living with us, no stuff to shed, it would be easy: Pack up and go. However, not knowing where to go would make even that option a bit difficult. We spent quite some time comparing maps to see it there's a choice that would make commuting to either location feasible. Nope, there's not. Got to be one or the other. And time is not on our side. What if they wait till late July to inform him which campus he must attend? I know there's an upside to all this: We get to go somewhere. It's the somehow that's the fly in the ointment. Where's the crystal ball when you need one? You want to be in Prescott, so go to Prescott, he can keep applying for transfer, can't he? He might have to drive a quarter or two to the other campus, but you'd be where you want to be. I drove nearly 60 miles one way for the last 2 years of my undergrad, and actually it was valuable time... I taped lectures, taped study notes to myself, etc. and played them back in the car while I was driving. I only drove about 35 for grad school... not as much study time. LOL :) |

Believe me, if it were feasible to live in Prescott and drive to the other campus, we'd do it. But it's not. It's not just the time; it's the road. Might be impossible in winter and not worth the risk to life and limb. If he doesn't get an answer soon (really soon) regarding the transfer, he will probably withdraw the request and start at the satellite campus. It makes it more complicated, but he could at least start on time. Alma In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. – Thomas Jefferson |

Ok I found the answer to the question I posted on the other thread. Alma will you sell your house here? What about GD and GSS? Marie I have this theory that chocolate slows down the aging process.... It may not be true, but do I dare take the chance? |

Marie, What was the answer? Are Alma and the MOTH moving? Did he get into the nursing program? "There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The answer is he got accepted into one of the nursing programs although not the one he wanted and they were applying for some kind of a transfer!! Marie I have this theory that chocolate slows down the aging process.... It may not be true, but do I dare take the chance? |

That's funny! ![]() The link just above this one takes me to this thread! I was just wondering if we've heard that any decision was made about moving or starting the program and if so where? Guess we'll wait to Alma to update us! "There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. But you look great with red hair!!!! JK!! ![]() I see. So it looks like he started the program at a satellite campus. Thanks, Marie. Susie "There are only two ways to live your life. Marie, we were at the Cottonwood campus yesterday and it seems Lorne will be stuck there if he wants to start the Nursing Program in August. Since finishing the program trumps 'where to live', we'll go with that. Now the fun begins. In this market and in this time frame, it's not likely we could sell this house - AND buy one there. School starts August 23. So, we're trying to figure out how to make the mortgage here and rent there. And make sure my GD and my sweet little GGS have a place to live. We'd like to rent to her and her (this is a first!) serious boyfriend, but we doubt that will happen. Any ideas? Have a magic wand? If you could find a renter that you can trust that would be ideal. What does the GD think? Marie I have this theory that chocolate slows down the aging process.... It may not be true, but do I dare take the chance? |

I'm not sure she's thinking. Or rather, I believe she's putting her trust in the boyfriend who is trying (not sure how) to buy a house. He's a wildlands firefighter who works during the wildfire season - which is now. He'd like to be a municipal fireman, but of course in this economy, nobody's hiring. I'm not sure how he's going to buy a house and I hope she's not in for yet another major disappointment. I have to try and sit them both down for a serious talk - and hope they listen. Meantime, the rush is on to fill out paperwork after paperwork (for Lorne) and try to find housing near the school. Any housing. Tents are out, but beyond that...?? My friend might have a house for rent in Cottonwood. Do you want me to check? If it is not available he might be able to give some suggestions. i think he used to be the mayor or something like that there. For sure, Marie! I'm posting ads on craigslist, going to put one in the local paper there and start fishing in any pond that looks promising. Six or seven weeks is not a lot of time. ![]() Alma In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. – Thomas Jefferson |

Ok I am going to see if I can get a hold of him. Marie I have this theory that chocolate slows down the aging process.... It may not be true, but do I dare take the chance? |

Any news, Marie? Not impatient, just curious.... I must say, as one who was in real estate waaaaay back when, I'm amazed at the response of some realtors. Example: I called about a house we saw when we were there. The woman gave me the basic info - and then told me it was sold. She never asked me a single question, e.g., what was I looking for, could she help me find another property, did I like that neighborhood... nothing. What kind of realtor doesn't want to keep a potential buyer on the hook. ![]() Meantime, the paperwork the school wants just goes on and on and ....
