Please think of my sister as we go towards the end of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. She has already gone thru a double mascetomy, 3 rounds of different chemos, 38 radiations. We thought it was gone. They couldn't get to one little lymph node behind her collar bone, hence the radiation.
Even tho she got an all clear, I felt it was dangerous to leave a node there, but we couldn't find a surgeon to tackle that. We took a vacation in May, ( her very first vacation ever) and had a blast. I took her to the southern coast. We met other net friends. She got to pick up shells and play with crabs. I noticed she was coughing. I made her promise me to go to dr when we got home. She waited until she thought she had pnuemonia and went to the ER. They said yes it was walking pnumonia. Gave her antibiotics and sent her home.
two weeks later she was still coughing and starting to hurt. She went back to her regualr dr. He told her full blown pnumonia. gave her new antibiotics. sent her home. Then she called me and told me she couldn't breathe.. I told her to go to the dr and request a lung dr to see her. She did. the cancer is back. in both lungs, her bones, her stomach, her pelvic/ hip bone. Back to cancer Dr. Chemo started back up, but still no relief from her breathing. they gave her an oxygen machine. Finaly she ends up in hospital with collapsed lungs and operating on only 1/4th of one lung. This girl is a fighter. They drained the fluids and tested it. while in there they did a talcum powder spread( what ever that is) she was in hospital for 8 days, going crazy and bored. finally they let her come home.
back to chemo. well, she is on round 2 of chemo again. she just got home from hospital to have the fluid around her heart cavity drained. they told her she can't keep doing that. ( getting drained) they didn't do her lungs because it won't help, the tumors have caused her lungs to not expand anyways. Her attitude is "I will do what ever it takes to kick this thing."
She keeps saying," SIS, I don't feel like I am dying, so It is all good"
I don't understand why they can't do anything else for her. SHe has been given 12 months or less.
Thanks for listening to me, I can't tell you how important this little girl is to me, we have been fast friends for ever, I used to make her clothes for school and had her live with me when our MOM was never home. We are very very tight. I can't stand the thought of losing her. ANy ideas or advice is appreciated. All this cancer is metasticized from the breast cancer. I'm scared.
Remember: You get what you give in Life,so be careful of what you are giving!
Debra, sorry I didn't see this right away... our internet was down for a couple of days after the storm.
I'm stunned and so sorry her cancer has returned -- so quickly, and in so many places! I'll pray that the chemo kicks the hell out of the cancer and takes it easy on the rest of her... It's amazing how chemo treatments can shrink tumors down to nothing, and I'm praying hard tonight for medical miracles for her. I'm also praying that her doctor will fight on her behalf, help her look for clinical trials, keep her lungs and the rest of her as healthy as possible so she can keep fighting... if you think her oncologist has just stamped her with an "expiration date," don't accept it; get another opinion. We're fortunate to have NIH nearby, but there are trials going on all over the country. See if the ACS (American Cancer Society, cancer.org or 800-227-2345) can help you find out about possible trials for her.
I'm asking God to wrap loving, healing arms around both of you tonight. Holding you close to my heart...
