i love digitalis. they like it cooler and wetter than what i have to offer. and they're always too tall for texas wind. so i never get to grow them. but...
these particular digitalas grow down to zone TEN Beeee...
AND
2 Ft. tall.
on the darwin site i think you are looking at ruby glow i think it was. look down at the bottom of info card. the other 2 varieties plum gold and rose ivory are pictured as well. these look like those digiplexis but hardy as these grow in zone 6. how they came up with those names i do not know. if someone sees the gold on plum gold lmk.
Too cold here for digitalis, but I'd be interested in the echibeckia. Couldn't find how hardy out was, but I can grow the others here, so should be good.
did they reseed in virginia shannon? seems like i have read that the people who can grow them do get overrun with them. it's hard for me to even imagine it.
i can't find a lot of info on them. maybe i can find out something when i call. but nowadays you don't talk to actual growers. only salesmen who don't always know.
The Echibeckia are supposed to be good to zone 6 and are sterile.
I tried 1 last year and it performed very well with many flowers, I will not know till Spring if it overwintered. I hope so a very pretty plant.
They were very nice all summer. I'm hoping the slugs will not eat them because they have fuzzy leaves. I'm currently watching for new growth, we have had a mild winter. More as spring progresses.
oh my gosh i love that 2nd photo. is that the orange? sounds like the brown blooms first and then the orange and yellow last. how long do they bloom for?
I bought mine in July in bloom and they bloomed until late sept. Left is the brown right is the orange. They are very close in coloration and hard to tell apart. This season will really tell me what they do, i'm sure these were growing in a cool greenhouse before delivery to the nursery.
