I recently met Keith Tibbetts when I joined the Amherst Orchid Society here in Western, MA. Keith had brought many wonderful orchids to the gathering that I was especially attracted to. So when he invited me to visit his greenhouse, I jumped at the chance to see it! He kindly consented to this interview.
Carlite is something that has to do with ceramic kiln bricks. It is used for good drainage so I'd expect it would require more watering. Keith uses it because he is spraying the roots of his vandas daily above his potted orchids and this helps to keep them from rotting, which they could do if too wet with the bark mix.
This weekend is the Orchid show at our Botanical Gardens. This article makes me anxious to go! But we'll have to wait and see. It's in South Buffalo, I'm in North Buffalo, and we're having a lot of snow coming down aout there all morning!
Same here, awful out! Snow, now sleet and rain. I wimped out of being a judge clerk this AM. But I'm hoping to go for a quick jaunt tomorrow. Nancy, if you go, take some of your great photos, okay? And start a thread here. http://cubits.org/orchids/forums/view/orchidshowsandgreenh/ (Gosh, I'm so BOSSY!!) Fingers xed that you will be able to go!!
I was there in April 2005.
