Hi! I was so excited Saturday when I hear one of my 2 year olds make that special sound just as they are mating. That means eggs soon!
Do any of you know the sound I speak of? Hurray!

I know what sound you are talking about, although mine make a much different sound. All of my peafowl are Javas or have a lot of Java blood.

Bridgett!! great to see you here!!

I took my DGS (2 yrs old) to the farms saturday (Ardenwood historic farm) They have about 10 peafowl there. So my grandson got to see one of the peacocks showing off all his glory! really neat to see the look on his face!

But then a tractor came by and oh my! that sound! Scared DGS for sure! Rolling on the floor laughing

Kicking myself for forgetting my camera :( we also got to see 2 lambs that were born the day before. super cute!

I know that sound! Spring is coming! Hilarious!

Kenboy, what do the Java's sound like? Any way to describe it? Those Java's are so cool looking. No Cheryl, you need to take care of the ones you already have - no Cheryl....

You missed a good photo opt Anjl.... Lovey dubby

I do not know how to describe their sound,it's just different. I paid $ 700 a pair for a pair of Javas five years ago, then a stray dog broke into my pens a killed them both. I had Great Pyrenees then but only females and they will kill a coyote but do not bother other dogs. I now have a male and that problem is solved. I paid $700 for a second pair. That is for birds less than a year old and they usually will not lay until their third year.
Add to that, Java cocks sometimes kill their hens or just chase them around the pen and will not mate with them. They are very wild and can not be turned loose and do not like anyone but their caregiver going into their pens, they go crazy.

The ones I have are the Rodney Michell line, which were the number one line in the US until several breeders started importing some from Germany. I have not even asked what these will cost.

I replaced one of my female Anatolians with a male (mutt), which resolved my dog issues as well.
Is that sawdust on the floor of the pen?
