When I was a kid, we had a neighbor who bred AKC Cocker Spaniels. They were $25! (lets you know how long ago that was) I wanted one so bad! But I never got one..I think they are so pretty..and I love the tousled look too.
We used to raise & show cockers. My husband grew up with labradors which have dangerous tails. We bought a Brittany for my father in law . Tony (the dog) was very confused with the labs which thumped their tails, while he & the cockers could not.
My sister had the sweetest cocker spaniel--she lived to be about 15 years old. She was incredibly smart. In spite of having lost her hearing at a young age due to chronic ear problems, I think she learned to read lips!!! Penny was a great dog, and gave me a real admiration for the breed.
Threegardeners--your girl is a lovely sleeping beauty.
My American Cocker Spaniel is my namesake Boojum. He's 11 years old now. We both hobble down the steps in the morning. But we romp when we're warmed up. He can be like Blanche DuBois (living off the kindness of strangers and a drama queen) or he can be very sneaky (the garbage) or he is mostly a clown (we laugh a lt) and sweet as can be. I'm still recuperating from the first two wild years of babyhood but he's sweet as sugar now.
