Joni, beautiful animal and looks so poised! I had a small poodle and enjoyed every minute of him, well except when he was trying to court Rolling my eyes.

I grew up with a Standard Poodle...his name was Tumbler and when we lived in the middle of an orange grove, he liked to pick tangerines and eat them, peel and all...he was a very special dog...don't have any pictures of him...not sure why.

Beautiful Joni! Male or female?...Here's Inky Dawg...and you are right about smart!!! Part of the breed I think. My last one was too. After his life, I decided to free myself for travel and stuff so I bought a statue. It wasn't 2 years later that I was driving south to pick-up this one. They both were/are great listeners and communicate wonderfully...I wonder that they weren't given the capability of speech; they surely have the aptitude for it. Inx is smaller than Ubo was but I don't have a digitalized picture of that one; have to get that done. I LOVE standards and you don't see them much up here in Wisconsin so he gets lots of attention too. My mom lived several years in and out of nursing and assisted living facilities and Inky was always a welcome visitor being so gentle and just wheelchair height (he's 25" at the shoulder). Now I am thinking of getting him certified as a therapy dog so he can visit hospitalized children.

Melva...I am not surpised by Tumbler's enjoyment of tangerines. Inky loves tomatoes! I used to have to pick them and toss them to him because I had taught him that the gardens were not to be trampled upon. Then I re-taught that the tomatoes (only) could be acessed and he picks them freely now. I even plant the kinds he likes best.

Jamie: Therapy work is very rewarding. My golden, Whisper, and I were certified Pet Partners through Delta Society, and we volunteered at a local hospital. Whisper was a people magnet, and he just thought that anyone sitting in a chair should have a golden retreiver head placed in their lap to pet! We had a blast doing it. If your dog is a people lover and good with basic obedience, it should not be that difficult to get certified.

LOL at a dog eating tangerines. I've had several that loved tomatoes, also (I used to wonder what happened to all of my green tomatoes until the day our basset hound got stuck behind the garden and started howling (probably ate too many tomatoes and couldn't get out)

JaeRae,
Nico is a female.
I doubt I'll ever adopt another breed...I'm hooked on Standard Poodles!

Joni: ME TOO! Because there are already way too many unhomed other dogs looking for love, I struggle with the thought of getting Inky a girlfriend. There is no finer nature I think than these standards. Post more PIX. of Nico? Black is a hard color to photograph but here's one that can sort of be seen, of INX relaxing a bit....

Hi everybody!
I'm going to move this thread over into the Dogs Forum, so don't be surprised when it pops up under a different forum title.

Jamie, I'm surprised to hear Standards seem unusual in Wisconsin... one of mine comes from Menominie and I've followed the careers of some really super hunting dogs near Milwaukee. We have 3 SPs, have lost two over the years. I sure agree with you about the capability of speech! Who was it that said "Poodles can hunt all day with the Retrievers, but when the other dogs go to bed, the Poodles will stay up to tell dirty stories and make up a fourth at Bridge"?

Hi Kristipoodle! I'd sure like to know what state Western Toddville is in. I know there is an SP breeder here in WI; of the area, it seems that breeding party poodles is more common. It is just that you don't see many here as pets. AND that there are more avilable in the south. I drove down to Missouri to get Inky. Because he does so much love other dogs, I'd like to get another for him (perhaps a female...but then there is the puppy issue...he'd be a great dad though) but he is such a co-buddy (always at my hip) that I worry about his self esteem. You have 3 though? How did you introduce them? Is there a heirarchy amongst them? What advice can you give?
