Truth should be everpresent.
Really strange thing has happened at our house tonight. We went to some friend's house because they wanted DH to officiate over renewing their wedding vows. We had a nice time and stayed a couple of hours. When we got home around 10 I came in the front door and went into my bedroom. My BC was asleep by the bed as usual. Then I saw something run past the door to the office. My BC caught sight of it and went to investigate, as did I. It was a brown puppy! Looks like a Brussels Griffon. Likely a cross of a small breed with a rough coat and a boxer. It has a protruding lower jaw and a rough coat. It is a male that looks to be around 3 months old and very skinny. Somebody had to walk up to my house, open the front door and put the puppy inside my house. Nothing was bothered. We had valuables , computers, guitars, a gun, DH's meds, ect. sitting out but nothing had been touched. Just this puppy in the house. I half expect it to be a joke that we will hear about tomorrow. Anyway, the pup is in the bathroom with my BC and they are sleeping. We tried to put him in the utility room but it has no door between it and the kitchen. We blocked it off with a piece of steel grating about 3 1/2 feet tall but he climbs it. If it is not a joke and somebody has put it off on us, we will have to find it a home. Like I don't have enough to do. It is a strange thing. I will not leave my door unlocked again.

OMG, that is the CUTEST pooch ever! Well, at least since I last saw the puppy my neighbors rescued. Whistling He's a doll. And you don't want to keep him?

He thinks he is home and DH is getting attached to him very quickly so he may just be here for good. We need to worm him and get him an 8 in 1 shot. And he is skinny. He looks like a border terrier but that is a rare breed.

He is a real cute puppy. I am thinking that whoever put the dog in your house knows you and your habits (like being a pet lover and leaving door unlocked) but did not enter inside with your dog at home.
A mystery for sure.

Relax. It's only a small setback.
When we are at the point of adopting another dog, I want one with a scruffy little muzzle exactly like your mystery pooch! Unbelievable that someone would bring him in to your home in the dead of night. Maybe it was Santa Claus with a late delivery?

Do you think he'll be staying? He looks awfully full of fun.

If he was bigger I would say he was a boxer / shnauzer (sp?) X but he appears to be too small. I know there are mini shnauzers but what about smaller lines of boxers?

He is still here and fitting in pretty well. He follows DH very closely and he followed me around while doing my chores today. Might make a good enough farm dog as long as he does not chase chickens.

Have you put up a notice of a found dog or called the local shelter yet?. Would hate to hear that after you spend $$ on the sweet pup that someone decides to claim him after he has had his shots and is fattened up.
I am happy that he feels comfortable in your home and gets along as if he belongs there.

The "local" shelter is 45 minutes away. We are in a small area. If somebody was missing a pup we'd have heard about it at the country store. As skinny as he is I doubt he was a loved and wanted pet but if somebody claims him and can verify it we'd give him back.

That answers why he is following you so closely, he never had a loving home. If anyone should come for him he will definitely suffer again. Poor baby.

I don't think they wanted him to begin with so i doubt they will be coming for him. I think he is here to stay. He learns quick so he may make a good farm dog.

We took him with us today in the truck when we went to feed the horses. At first he was shaking. I wondered if he was afraid he was going to be taken off and dropped again. But he calmed down and did well. He is a smart little guy. He figured out that the horse cannot step on him if he stays outside the hot wire. He has also learned to "sit" and is doing pretty well with "down". He stays out of reach of the goats and has not bothered the chickens.

Well here it is over a month later & I am reading this intriguing story. Cheryl, you must tell us please....is he still with you? He is adorable! I can say though that I do not believe he is even part Border Terrier ... too many things don't fit for him to be. I have a Border. But you could be right about the Brussels Griffon being part of his background. Might be easier to tell as he gets older.
What a story! At first I gasped that anyone would go off & leave their door unlocked. Times, they HAVE changed. But then as I read the whole story I began to think..... maybe you leave your door unlocked because this was supposed to happen.

I would love an update on "Scruffy" too. I really hope he's fitting in well on your farm these days.

Me too. I think of him often, maybe someone claimed him now that he is fattened up.

He is still here and growing like a bad weed. LOL He is house broken mostly and he will now go in his crate when he is told. He is very smart. He is getting taller with long legs. Eats like a horse. :) Still cute as a button. I have some new pics of him but still have to upload them.
