With spinach, I always had trouble with it to bolting the moment the warm weather arrived, and last year was the first year it didn't - my secret? It was volunteers from the compost! Now I'm trying it on purpose, by letting the ones that do finally set seed to just scatter them where they will - we'll see if I'm successful once the snow is gone. Also had great success with Red Orach and some other brassicas and I'm hoping to do this one again. I love greens - I'm craving them already and I've got a long time to wait.

I've obtained great results by laying a board over my sown seed and checking under it daily until I see the first sprouts.
