This will be a fun secret garden in part of my yard that has no character or interest. My goal was to draw it up and plant it out according to plan. Quite a challenge for me since I can't stick to a plan, don't read directions, and generally much more comfortable in chaos. Be prepared for a laugh and feel free to post suggestions, comments and recipes for mojitos.

To be continued.....

I love dark colored flowers, but I have never thought of having a bed just for them. I always try to use a yellow - green plant for contrast. I have some very dark dahlias planted and I have sown some chocolate sunflowers that are sprouting. Last year I had a real dark flowering tobacco. Dark coleus are easy to find also. I have 2 pots on my porch that I amy use for Goth containers if I can find appropiate plants, thanks for the idea. Sharon

Sounds like you have a start on the rest of us Piney! I'll use different colors for contrast as well, red purple silver etc. The CP's will go in there as well as amorphs and cobra lilies. I too have black dahlias, cannas and coleus. I'll use dark red to contrast. (I have roses that need a new home). We all will interpret different and that's what will make it fun to see.

Click on Charley's picture on the Member galleries forum. You'll read the info behind Charley's goth gardens etc, and then start your thread. We have great fun as a group! Always trading plants etc. Great coleus! They are so versatile and hide weeds. I agree

I love that name Angele! Charley's girl Angele: Chaos Garden Thumbs up Start that thread!

That's a 'Night Owl' rose. It's a climber and is a dark version of "Sharon"? I think. It's pretty and I'm hoping it will look good at the beginning of my Goth path. I have a spiky trellis to put together. I also have a mocha macho agave I need to find a place for. It's a weakness I have for SW plants! Chaos hummm! I think that should be a new category! Goth, Ungoth, Friendship and Chaos. Hurray!

My favorite favorite of the Southwest won't grow here. It's a black rose Aeonium arboreum 'Zwartkop' My grandmother and I tried to grow them in KY. They don't last long with this much moisture.

They have to have very very good drainage. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this agave. Rolling my eyes.

I had that "Zwartkop" - managed to kill it. I think it does better as a house plant.

That's an interesting plant. Does the stems have little spines all the way up? It looks like alligator skin in the pics. Looks like a goth plant to me! Smiling Almost all these desert plants have a symbiotic relationship with some critter or other. Do you know what likes it?

Perfect! Nature is truly marvelous! Looks like they are holding their flowers out for them. Like Brugs will raise theirs up to entice the moths. Make a nice painting!

I will post a close-up of the flowers in my thread :) - don't want to hog your thread, but yes there are thorns all the way up the stems & I agree they would fit in a goth garden
