For the last month or so I've been eagerly anticipating receiving a camera from my Mom.

About 3 months ago mi Padre had asked mi Madre to order a new camera for him to use. Seems he'd been having some trouble with his that had been given to him by his boss. Mom ordered and received the new camera and all was well in the world. Meantime I had been looking around for a camera that had the capability to document some of the plants growing in my gardens. The prices astounded me. Seems that in order to be able to change a lens you have to just about go into hock to obtain one with those capabilities.
Mom decided she would try the old camera out just to see what it was doing. It worked fine for her! I asked if I could use it since they both had new ones already and she said yes, as soon as she got her pix off of it.
Well, she got that done yesterday and handed the camera over. After profuse thank yous and picking a bouquet of blooms for Mom I tried to take a photo of the arrangement and guess what? It doesn't work again!
Go figure. Back to the ole' drawing board.
Temper-mental piece of equipment anyhow.....

So, if anyone has any information on Fujifilm S5000 series cameras and why this one is shutting itself off in record mode, or has horizontal black lines scrolling downward in the picture window, I'd greatly appreciate your opinions on what to do for it. Sticking tongue out

Sounds like a battery problem, probably be cheaper to take it in to let someone look at it than buy a new one. Might be something easy to fix. Blinking

Chelle, I feel your pain. Finaly got my camera working and now it says camera locked. Now I have to explore the online manual to find out how I locked it and how to unlock it....ugh technology. Whatever happened to point and click.

Mekos,
I thought about the battery thing too, but the playback feature seems like it would work if there was a pix on it. Plus the low battery icon doesn't display.

gardenersdetective,
It took me the better part of an hour and numerous tries to get a manual for my camera to download. A couple more hours to read it. *Sigh*
Under the heading for trouble-shooting there is no mention of my issue.
I'm not even sure where I would take it for repair. Don't we have to send everything in somewhere for repair these days?

I bought my 4 year old son a 50$ point and click camera. Works great!
Just can't take a decent photo of a plant or bloom for anything. No way to control available light.

Good luck with yours! I'll keep fooling with this one a bit more. I don't give up very easily. Stubborn. (that's me!)

OK, Chelle, In the manuel there should be a place to contact the manufacturer. Send them an e-mail with your problem and I know they will contact you with what to do. They always want people to use their products and they will help you get it right. Don't give up.

I actually called on the phone and waited for a real person. She said she couldn't give any pointers, I'd have to send it in and have it looked at.
I still might do that, but I decided to not blow a whole summers worth of photo ops while I'm trying to get somewhere with an unknown.....so.....I did it! Thumbs up
I got a Nikon D3000. So far I've only taken a handful of shots, but ya know I'm gonna go crazy with it! Rolling on the floor laughing Big Grin Lovey dubby

I got this one out on the covered part of the deck, and my little guy helped with the editing and artwork. :smily:

(Best part of the deal is, I have 90 days to *test drive* it. Smiling )

The round on top part and the black on the edges are what Kendon did in photo editing. Amazing what kids can do nowadays, isn't it?
