Oh how beautiful Jaye. ......... How are they so big and already blooming this year? Mine had died all the way to the soil in the pots. Now they are about 12" tall and just leaves.
Love the clematis Jaye. I have never, ever had any luck with growing them.. Secret please.
Well, I was at my son's home by 8:30 to help finish you the butterfly garden. It is done, now we sit back and hopefully it will grow. I am so tired from crawling around on the ground but it was worth it. Had a lot of fun with the girls and my son.
I took some pictures of his azaleas that are just spectacular right now. Will post as soon as I get them downloaded.

Name: Jaye or Sistah North Carolina, temporarily. Lord Jesus, He's all I need.
Sis Debbie.... Maid M... that is the only clematis grown in the asiatic lilies lasagna bed. Lots of nutrients in that 3 year old bed.
BUT, I truly think it's the extra special attention that my oldest cat has given to it.
The area around the trellis, is Rimau's favorite 'poo-poo' grounds!
Serious!!!
Sooo that is why I can't go clematis! My kitties use a litter box and not my flower beds. Might have to have a chat with them now and see if they will cooperate with me.
I am exhausted! Finished Abbigail's butterfly garden at 3:30, came home and worked in my yard until son called invited us to pizza at 6:20. My bones are saying let us rest!
So I think I shall.
Night all.

Marion, I wonder if it just does not get cold enough, for long enough, for clematis to grow well in florida????
I have some in my yard, and everything else in the same area grows really well, I know there is good soil..etc...It does grow, just not a lot .
I was told the secret to great ones is that they like cool roots....but lots of sun on the vines......, need heavy thick mulch....so what we did was to take some pieces of broken patio stones, and place them around the stems...down below the soil level, covered with a small amount of soil, then a layer of mulch, then more soil..and ended with more mulch...they did seem to do better last year than ever before......A very wise older gentleman gardener told me about the patio stones , or bricks...said it helps keep the roots cooler???
LOL, because they need shade on their roots and sun on their leaves, I planted one of my clematis and one of my mandevillas in a concrete block. I worked the soil real good under the block, so the roots can go down and have plenty of room. I may still have to get them sun glasses (upside down pot) for their roots, but we will see how they do like they are. When winter comes and they need to be covered, I will just set a 1" thick concrete paver over it and see what happens. Do ya'll feel sorry for my plants yet?
Thanks all for the clematis information. I had heard the saying about cold roots and hot leaves but inspite of doing that, I just kill them!! My neighbor in Gainesville had one that was nothing short of fantastic--Henry something or other. It was a huge white bloom that seemed to last forever.
I did go over to see the butterfly garden today and I must say I am very pleased. She watered it very good late yesterday and everything looks as if it has been in place for sometime. I am trying to be patient until it starts growing. I am just about as thrilled as she is--I can't grow plants like she has as I just don't have enough of a sun area.
Thunder you asked for it.

Lovely azaleas and the Butterfly Garden will be so pretty! A neighbor was telling me how big the azaleas got in Florida compared to mine.... Wow, yours are 2X as big as mine, he wasn't kidding!
Little girls are so cute! We used to hide in Gma's Snowbally bush, beside the old farmhouse. It was right next to the honeysuckle and lily of the valley..
Kathy, those are at my son's home and it is just one of about 5 groups he has like that. They are so pretty right now.
Yeap, I think the butterfly garden will be really nice when it start growing. LOL I think all of at one time or another has hid in our mom's or grandma's bushes. Part of the wonderful memories of childhood.
This is my favorite picture of the youngest GD.
