the "rules" PLEASE make sure the fabric is 100% cotton If in doubt, don't use it Selvage edges should be cut off prior to cutting for blocks If you are concerned about the possibility of a color bleeding please prewash it Do not use any spray starch on blocks, spray sizing is OK. You will make ONE ROW for each participant, and one for yourself Remember after you finish a project we want to see your results!! Please be sure to put your user name and real name on the ROW that you send . You can pin it on, or use a little sticky note. Address labels are great. you could also use a pigma pen carefully along a seam allowance... use any block design/s you want , to make your row...as long as it is within the recipients color choices / theme::: your rows can be multiples of the same block...or many different blocks rows must be close to 80'' in the end we will all have very lovely queen size tops It is your responsibility to be sure every one has the correct address for you. You may start mailing as soon as you finish a row. no special order..make how-ever / who-ever you wish.. ALL MAILED by November 1st. and the last and most important "rule".............HAVE FUN ![]() don't hesitate to ask any questions, we all learn more that way!! ![]() ![]() |

If you find some "inspiring pictures when you are looking for ideas...please share... nifty zig zag border, quilterscache has a nice "border" tute section.... http://www.quilterscache.com/B/Borders.html and she has a nice bow block too.. |

Yayay..Sew, we have begun! OMG, well just in time too. found several really cool blocks! i think will be great for all. Thank you Thunder for your help on sizing. LOL, just got a chance to play with it. Marion! Sew cool to chat with you. LOL, Got to thank you too Sistah Jaye, Best introduction to Quilter Cache, OMG, spent hours going through the patterns! My new favorite site. OK got to print out the list above... OH 80" long, but is there a width size? I am loving this already! |
Judy you are only making one row to go across side to side and it needs to be 80" long. EX: A row of Christmas trees going across side by side until you get to 80" You are only making one row for each person. Did that help? |
Thanks Barb, but how wide is the row? ![]() |
![]() ![]() ![]() I make a total of 7 rows (that is including mine) then mail one each of the rows (in correct color/designs) to each of the participants. Right? ![]() ![]() ![]() Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional! My Mom |

Judy , the row needs to be approximately 80'' across...the other size is up to you...if you want to make 5'' blocks...10''blocks...12'' blocks...or a mixture of sizes......just so long as the row comes close to 80'' Marion, Yes that is it... you can see in this example the theme was patriotic / Americana different designs used to make up some rows... |
this is not a great photo, but a good example of different blocks, but common theme (snowman) this was listed as a "winter" theme, and obviously this quilter requested vertical rows... |
again diff. blocks common theme, Christmas |
you can see these much better when you click to open them.... this is one that uses all same blocks for the row |
I know a few quilters that will really like this one !! different blocks, common theme |
and Of course because I want to find an example...I can not at this time...you can use different size blocks, and make them into a row......for instance...both 10'' designs, and 12'' designs, just add a frame around the 10'', to make it into a 12.5 see how I have started to frame the scrap pieces here, I will continue to add pieces , in a sort of log cabin style to enlarge all of the "blocks''......then trim edges a bit to get a common size... any ways...you can mix different block designs to create a row, and you can mix different block sizes to create your row!!! be fearless ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Just one more.... this was a 10 inch block and I fell in love with it, and wanted to use it for a swap....but the swap wanted 12.5....sewwww.....I just made the last pieces wider than the others !!!!, I think they came out great, and no one complained about the blocks so I guess every one else liked them too ![]() ![]() I am just trying to tell Y'all to have fun with this, get a little creative, try something different...... I was very afraid, when I first started the above block, but ...as I said "I think it came out great" so just give it a try!!! Ya never know ![]() |

Thunder if you recall, that pattern of the last block you posted, that was the first time I 'met' you. I love it that I dmailed you on the pattern. Still love it. Judy, I cheat too!! When the blocks don't meet the size, I just add borders.. of course they're not the specific swap blocks that the participants have already assigned designs ![]() Those I try to 'wiggle' or take out the seam ripper. By the way, I have a collection of seam rippers! ![]() ![]() Finished your block Maid M. I agree with Thunder.. scraps make beautiful, striking blocks! Will mail out yours Monday. Now to finish Betty's. I've made extras 'scrap' squares and will use those for her. Will post a pic when I finish. Have fun at the beach Thunder.. off to sew I go. |
