I'm calling my mom now - they haven't heard much about auntie Jean, other than what my brother told me that she's "perkier" but then she's on morphine.......
My mom didn't really know much..

I just spoke to my mom and my auntie Jean is not responding to anything (she's on morphine), and so they're going to take her off life support.
She's only 83......... but with cancer, it brings an elderly person down quickly

Thank you - feeling so sad for my mom having lost yet another sibling. She only has one sister left (3 sisters and 2 brothers gone), and that's the youngest of the family.
My mom will be 92 May 2nd, and she's feeling sad and frail, too.

It's been a week since I heard my Auntie Jean passed away in her sleep - 1:30 am. They had the funeral on Thursday, and two of my sisters took my mom - to Neepawa (about 2 hours west of Winnipeg).
I wish I could have been with my mom that day. to my mom, across the miles

It likely is - lots of towns in Manitoba are Metis, French and/or Indian. For instance Portage la Prairie was named when the Coureurs de bois portaged through the province (prairie).
There are so many of these little towns - Canada was named for "the village" Kanata and misunderstood by the explorers when they spoke to the Indians.
