I wish I knew her heritage. I rescued the dog from my son's neighbor in San Antonio. It belonged to his Mom, as she could not keep it in the apartment she lived in, so she brought it out to the country where my son lived. I found out that she needed a home, so I brought her home. The son could tell me nothing about here. When we took Luna to the vet, we found out she was/is very sick with heart worm, tick fever/ehrlichia. She has been on antibiotic's for a month now, and we have to take her back next week for a follow up. She had never been to a vet for shot's or check up. She is doing a little better, finally eating and gaining weight, but she still runs fever most of the time.

Vet called and asked if I could bring Mandy in at 3 PM instead of noon. I think I should get a discount for that. Hilarious! I'm glad to hear Luna is doing better. We need a complete recovery.

Linda, how kind of you to save little Luna! Surprised me in the first place that you had a dawg. I didn't think you did. She looks so pert in her picture that I'd never guess she'd been sick or hadn't been treated by a vet! It amazes me that so many get animals they can't (or won't) take care of properly.

Hello Anita! Got your c-mail. Good to see you too!

Oh, we love dogs here Jaime. We lost our Siberian Husky last year, Karoosh was like 14 years old, and got sick, so we had a vet come to the house, and put him to sleep!

TBo is too nosy. Charleen!!

Pegi, I will bring your message over to DG. Some sistahs there who are involved in the Hands Project don't frequent here.
Hope it will help you as much as it did Barb, Sue and Faye. Lovey dubby

Jean's suggestion is a good one! Jean, do ask your SIL what is the best food for dogs with skin allergy?

Karen, so.. on St. Pat's Day, does Molly Malone get corned beef for treats? Big Grin
I'm actually a dog person. Rescued 13 dogs back in Louisiana, and here, it's Kel that rescued the cats! Blinking Yep, I'm going bonkers, but love them all!

Lucky Luna!! God bless you LK, for doing the right thing.
That's what I'm afraid of .. heart worms. So costly to treat, and most vets don't accept payment plans.

Sue, now you know how much we love you!! Lovey dubby

Jamie, I heed what you post on FB. The only folks that won't see any of my postings on other friends' pages are the ones I had blocked. Now with this new shenanigan by FB, I did exactly as you'd advised.

I find the Lamb and Rice dog foods are good. Make sure they don't have corn in any of the ingrediants. Corn is a number 1 allergean to dogs.
I wouldn't have guessed that Luna was sick ? wow sure is a preeeetttyyyy girl.

I agree Simply beautiful!!

Took Mandy to vet and he scheduled her surgery for Feb.5th. The hernia got bigger and is more complicated to fix.......came back with a $600 plus price tag. I know it would be more expensive at the VCA hospital, gad all doctors make lots of money. DH never worried about money and how we were gong to pay for everything, now he is getting worried. I suffered with mirgaine headaches for years and found it was all due to stress and I'm giving up that part of my life. Whistling Oh, we have found out what Mandy is, mix of chi and corgi. One of the boys at the vets came up with that right away. Corgi's have long bodies and short legs. She now weighs 8 lb 1 oz. and hope she doesn't get any bigger.

If your vet has offered food as a cause for skin allergies, then there are certain proteins, dairy, meat and veggie, that you can eliminate from the dog's diet that should help. Veggie protein, corn, soy and wheat are likely culprits...beef and other corn/wheat fed animal protein can also cause problems as well as dairy products. Foods with turkey, bison, venison and duck are good choices (especially if your dog has had lamb products and still had problems). Foods that contain Omega 3 oils from fish, flax seed and avocado are also good for their skin and coats(do not add these to their food as supplements without talking with your vet to determine the proper amounts) Many of the new formulations are using sweet potatoes and green beans....and most dogs love canned green beans as a treat. We use the No Salt canned green beans and our Beagles think they are yummy. We also buy canned mackerel (rinsed to remove the excess salt) a couple times a month as a special treat.

You may want to look into the Blue Buffalo line of foods. There is a Turkey and potato Blue basic food that is very good for dogs with food allergies. It all boils down to using the above guidelines for what to avoid in whatever dry food you choose. Hope that helps.
What I don't know is why books are written.

Well we made the deal today to sell our home in northern MI so we can move to warmer TN. Ship really hit the sand when I announced to the family. You'd have thought we never mentioned it before. I feel really bad but it's the best thing for us at this time in our life. We have nearly 30 years of family memories here at the lake. But the fact is, very few have the time to come here any more.Thumb of 2013-01-29/Siliolegma/9d797f

Wow! You folks go too fast for me....still trying to figure out that which I missed. I get confused by some use of first names by those I haven't known well. Forgive me...no slight intended.

Yes, Linda now I DO remember Karoosh, I am sorry. Remember the rainbow bridge.

Allergies are the reason that I cook all of Inky's food. I am not recommending that although I am very careful about ingredients, but it turned out (and Boy! do I mean THAT) that he is allergic to anything chicken including foods & treats that use chicken byproducts. Almost all pet food does. Since better foods came on the market, I tried them but by then he was spoiled. One thing I make him regularly is meatloaf (no wheat or onions) with lean ground beef, oatmeal, chopped celery, parsley and other good stuff. He also gets beef and pork roast. People come here and, when they notice, they comment that Inky eats better than they eat at home! Why not? He's MY baby.

Congratulations Karen, I agree...go forth, live as you wish.

Pegi: I missed details but think your concerns are with your husband's health as well as Mandy's. Regardless I hold your worries in my heart.

Jaye: Did you make those things? Impressive work!
