Karen, yes it must be bitter sweet leaving a part if the family behind. I have a friend who lives in Oregon. She has 2 children, a daughter in San Diego California with 2 children and a son in Michigan who also has 2 children. She flies back and forth many times a year, and also comes to Iceland every year. Now when she and her husband are retiring they are thinking about living in 2 places, in California during winter and Michigan in summer.
I wish we could have afforded to keep this place and do that. All the family is so attached to the cottage and lake, they have many good memories here. I said when we accepted the offer, that I had broken my family's heart.

Better to have $$ to survive, than to keep a building that, although it has memories, is a thing...... and sometimes you have to move on, no matter how painful it seems at the time.

Karen, Have you ever been to Washington Island in Lake Michigan, I think I might have some relatives there. My great grandfather's brother settled there just before the 1900, and a few years later his sister and mother went there too. I have been told it is a beautiful island and I have wanted to go there for a long time.
Magga, I had never heard of Washington Island so I had to look it up on Google Earth. It is part of Wisconsin and near Green Bay. That is indeed a beautiful area.

Barb any takers yet? You're so generous sistah, but no thanks again. Snow ain't my thing!
Karen, you're being practical. At this time, you and your hubby need to live comfortably, and still have some financial security.
Perhaps someone down the line will decide to get a vacation home, and the family holiday tradition will continue.
Hi Magga!! It's the same here. The weather's confusing my plants. Some were already sprouting new growths until the snow hit us. I was told that we're expecting snow again next week!
Think we should be relisted as zone 7 and not 8!

Good morning, all!!
we've had amazing weather (54F today) and now we're going to have a Winter Storm - 8" of snow predicted...... yikers!!
I'm still working on the Broken Dishes baby quilt for our friend and his wife. All cut out, (with HST), and several of the blocks put together - takes 30 3 1/2" blocks in all.
I'm so pleased with my points!

I'm having some computer problems. My DSL modem doesn't want to do what I want it to. Couldn't get on the Internet and almost went through withdrawel pains. I called Verizon today and spent all morning asking for help. Talk to a woman from India I had a hard time understanding, then I had them call me back and a man walked me through a lot of it. He was from India too, but at least I could understand him. They are going to send me a new modem that has a router built in. Haven't hooked up my router yet, don't want to lose the Internet again. So by the middle of next week I should be fine. My computer is almost 9 years old, cheaper to have it upgraded or get a new one?????
Still very warm out, hoping for rain soon. Time to think about plants,
Pegi, I have never upgraded, so I could not tell you the price difference. I guess it will all depends on what you upgrade to.
I do know I have seen a lot of people posting, that they do not like the new windows 8.

I've heard it said that if you request a techie in your own country that they have to put you through to one........ at least you'd be able to understand them...........
