Oh Barb that's awful, sure hoping surgery doesn't come into play |
Morton's Neuroma?? Oh Barb, I'm so sorry to read that! I do have nerve damage on my toes, but due to diabetic neuropathy. Lyrica has worn out its effectiveness, and I learnt to cope with the numbness. Sometimes in the middle of the night, I'd be screaming in pain... hope yours isn't that way. The damage now has spread up to my thighs and knees. One day perhaps.. after I'm qualified for Medicare.. I'll opt for that surgery, if the good Lord could hold me that long or heal me. Sending you healing prayers, my precious sistah. ![]() |

Hopefully I am catching this in time for the cortisone shots to take care of it. With my breathing issues, I use a walker at times and if the nerve in my foot needs to be cut then I will just use it all the time for balance. I'm not going to let this get to me. I'm fortunate in that I'm retired now and rest and take it easy whenever I need to. I count my blessing Jaye.....And I'm so grateful for the prayers. Thank you dear heart. |

I wasn't given cortisone shots Barb, the doctor in fact didn't give me anything until I brought up an ad on Lyrica 6 years ago. He said it's new, but I was willing to try anything. At first, it was just one, once a day.. then 2 twice a day.. and the damage regressed and I quit using them for months now. One side effect is weight gain. When you read of my issues with mobility, that's part of the problem. Sometimes, while walking, I had to stop and recapture my balance or either wait till my legs quit quivering. That scares me a lot, and if Kel's around.. he'd rush to my side and would hold my cane-free arm. Doctor would tell me that I don't exercise enough. He had never experience what nerve damage can do to your legs, so I told him not to judge. He's a Christian, and he shuts up since then. I failed my SSI app as their assigned doctor told me to walk, and I was walking fine then. But, when I told him that at times I do lose my balance badly or my legs would shut down on me.. seems it went on deaf ears. Maybe I should have acted weak?? But it's not me to lie. How could I lie to potential employers that they have a fit worker on their hands? I thank God that He makes sure we have food on the table and the kitty bowls! Seriously thinking of buying one of those motorized chair.. some folks around here sell them for $500... Soon, Kel will have to modify my sewing pedal into a knee one!! But that's okay, as long as I have my fingers to guide the cloth!! ![]() We'll just prop each other up Barb! My back isn't as bad as yours.. but I need your eyes!!! ![]() |

Sadly it seems that in order to get disability these days takes a lawyer. I've known too many that need it and have to fight for it. |
Karen, the lawyer I had hired said that SSI dropped me too quick, and he told me to wait another year..and on to another year... it's been 3 tries! In NC, it's a totally corrupt state. You have to get the 'ins' to be qualified. Have a neighbour, whole family's on SSI and they can be up there fixing their roofs and take annual vacations and have brand new vehicles. Well, I could ask them for help.. but God won't want me to. Kel's been wonderful to me. He lives with my disability and knows it's real. I can never ask for a better DH.. |

I sure know about that Jaye. I have a nephew who is in early 50s, been a heavy drinker since his teens and says he has no intention of stopping. Now his liver is totally shot (in fact for a while they had him on a transplant list) every time he drinks..when he gets his disability checks (he barely ever worked)...he starts vomiting, ruptures his throat and bleeds, goes to the hospital where they patch him up yet again...at no cost to him..and send him back home to repeat the cycle. His mother is even paid to take care of him and she's an enabler...."it's only beer". I feel for his mom, and his children, but I no longer have any sympathy for him just surprise every time he makes it out of the hospital yet again. It just seemed to me that he just waltzed into collecting those checks and it pisses me off that folks who need and deserve it have to jump through all the hoops and suffer. Maybe you need another lawyer. don't let this happen to you ..fight girl friend. |
Karen, it's the same way with Kel's two uncles, maternal and paternal! They were both alcoholics, won't work and collected checks at our expense. Then there's another uncle who did finished high school and yet lied to SS that he's illiterate!!! I shouldn't have pointed the neigbours. The shame is there in his family's backyard too. As Kel said, I have to resort to drinking or drugs or act dumb!! |
Well at least my nephew was taken off the transplant list, I swear I'd have pitched a fit if he'd gotten a transplant so he could continue to drink, and trust me that's the only reason he was for it. I'm so sad for his two beautiful children and ex-wife, he's put them through hell. |

Sooooo that's the end of my rant for a while. |

ooh so much pain Barb....... nerve damage? Hope there's something done for you, hunn.... Yes Jaye - lots take advantage of "the system" and others don't get any help at all. I know there are lots of us who've see this first hand, and oh - the stories we could tell, eh? Just heard that we can pick up our RV tomorrow!! Bob's gonna get a ride from someone, to the LRT station, and Alberta Parks will have a convoy to take people out. I don't think I'm gonna drive him tho. I fell yesterday, on my bad knee (going up the stairs in our church - I thot there was an extra step and there wasn't...) So, on my bad knee with the torn ligament and osteoporosis, I now have a huge swelling which the Dr says is water on the knee. Gave me T3 and anti-inflammatory meds. He says in about 10 days it should be better Geeze it would be painful if I wasn't so drugged up lol I just woke up from a great nap. ![]() |
I'm thankful that I don't have such pain in my feet at night as I hear of all the pain others have because of nerve damage. Prayers for all!! I see more and more people using walkers. I use a cane when I'm out walking, I do lose my balance at times and don't want to take a tumble. I feel like I'm tripping over my own feet. Life is fragile, handle with prayer. |
Oooooh watch that knee Susan, I've had bad knees since I can remember, think I was 11 or 12 first time I remember hearing them squeak. I took a bad fall on Easter and it still hurts. Pegi using a cane at times is good and ever much better than taking a spill. I use one on occasion when I feel that three on the floor is better than two. LOL. People look at us funny in the store when I'm pushing a loaded cart and hubby is just walking along, but it helps me to have it to hang on to. |
That's how it is with me too Karen. They see me with oxygen tubes and wonder why I am pushing the carriage. They just don't understand that is what is holding me up!!!!! Plus the position of bending over slightly opens the airways and allows easier breathing. I think that is why I am comfortable at the computer and sewing machine. It works for me...... ![]() ![]() |
Heck of a thing Barb, but we do what we gotta do.LOL |
Hey.. I'm not in strange territory!!! Barb, Karen.. that's how it is with me too! Yep, eyes were on Kel when I'm pushing the cart!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() The stares got harder when they noticed the cane potruding!! But lately, I am forced to use the motorized cart. Pegi, count your blessings sistah. May the night pains never visit you. |
I use a cane at times when I'm feeling unsteady, I'll use the motorized cart too. I've been really stubborn about continuing my aerobics but it gets more painful not less. Really hard to walk any distance any more, waiting to hear what the surgeon has to say the 19th. Then see if I'm too ornery to just go along with it. |
Ladies, the horror stories are here too for those on disability. Pretty sad when those of us that need it have to fight for it. It took my lawyers 3 years to get mine approved. Jaye, do you have your Dr.s support you with the paper work you need to help your claim. That does help. Susan, sure hope you get your motor home today. Barb, sure hope you don't have to have surgery on that nerve. Praying the shots help you! And I join you in the stores, I prefer to push the cart for support too! |
