Jaye!!!! That is totally beautiful. Truly gorgeous. You are so talented. |
I like! I like! Wish my fingers still worked good enough, I've made some beautiful afghans and gave them all away! |
Simply beautiful Jaye. Great job! ![]() ![]() |
Glad to hear you had a good meal brought to you Audrey! Jaye, that shawl is so beautiful! |
We're preparing for a winter storm here on Thurs. TV said it will be worse than the ice storm of '09, when power went off for weeks here. Jaye, I may need about 50 of your shawls!!! |
Thanks sisters. Sharon, do you crochet? I had quit for years, and decided to finish the UFOs. Audrey, I do hope the storm decides not to visit you! Hope that you have enough canned food and candles to last you in case there's a black out. Please be careful.. it's good to make sure your cell phone is fully charged by Thursday. Nothing much here, the new news is that Kel had been given 2 tickets to a Christmas show at the beach tomorrow evening. He's excited, but not me. I just hope the seats will be close to a bathroom! ![]() |

The ice and snow comes in Fri. I sent after canned stuff with pull tops today, along with nuts and potato chips. I have peanut butter and crackers. Tomorrow I'll send her for pudding cups! The worst thing is, we have an elevator, and I'm not able to climb UP the stairs. If I went out, I'd have to stay, so I'll be stuck here, if the power fails! |
Jaye, I can only crochet a long straight scarf, that's all I remember how to do. Pitiful since I came from a long line of crochet-ers. As long as it looks like a square or a rectangle, I can do it, but nothing nothing else. We are to get the same weather Audrey, but it's iffy, I think. I do hope it's nothing like the Ice Storm of '09. Ten days of doing totally without electricity and phone service and being blocked in by fallen trees and tree limbs and completely frozen in is not remotely comfortable. |
I can do all that hand work, mom and grandmother taught me early on, including tatting. I really don't have the patience for it. I'll make small items, kids sweaters or a baby blanket but that's about it. |
Sharon, they're saying now, depends when the cold front comes in, if it overlaps the rain, sleet and snow, we're in trouble! In '09 I was in Dyersburg, and we lost no power, but it was out here for almost 2 weeks. |
We had snow today to rain tonight and back to snow tomorrow. Should mess up the roads real good. |
The storms you are having Karen reach me tonight. Then the fun begins as the temps drop as well. Looks like I'll be housebound for a while. |
House bound here too. Sure don't plan on going out today. Stay snuggie warm Barb. |
Guess I can count my blessings. Reading what my snow sisters are facing (the weather, not your crowning glory), I thank Him for the rain and the 70s temps. Yes, stay warm sisters. Hopefully the rains decide to stop before we leave the house. |

It's 69* here, now, Jaye. We're having a mandatory meeting here, tomorrow . at 10:00 AM at my apartments about the storm to come. Fire Department will be here with safety plans for IF the storm hits as bad as they think! |

Audrey, hope you will be spared from the storm. For the benefit of sisters that don't go to the other building, here's my story. Well I did a stupid thing. Decided to trim the 2 lorapetaleums, One went well.. but the other.. oh dear. Caused me scraped arms and pricked fingers!! Didn't notice that a wild rose briar was growing alongside it! Of course, stupid me didn't think of wearing gloves. As lorapetaleums are thornless. Worse, I was wearing my old holey Crocs. Yes, some loose thorns got into them. Ouch, Ouch Ouch all the way home!! Waiting on Kel to bring home some BandAid as one stubborn teeny weeny thorn chose to embed itself deep in one finger. As for yesterday.. Had a fantastic time at the Carolina Opry. It was a 2 hour show, and the theater was packed. Block bookings from churches as far as Virginia helped with the sales. Kel and I weren't interested in the dances (high kicking NY Rockette style) but the clogging was nice, performed by semi finalists "All That" from one of those tv talent shows. Comedy skits were great, there was even a psuedo Duck Dynasty appearance that got the audience in stitches. The 5 piece band mostly stayed in the background, atop a moving stage. Kel and I craned our necks trying to spot them and when the Hammond B3 was played, that sent me to rapture!! Lolol.. love that organ sound! Think I was the only one that clapped :( That was a nice treat for Kel as he hadn't given himself a break since his dad had the stroke. If it weren't for the free tickets, I doubt we'll be seeing the show. Kinda pricey.. we did thank the donor profusely! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Everyone stay warm!! Jaye, you and Kel must have had a great time. I know I would have enjoyed it. Jaye, that shawl is beautiful. I haven't crocheted in a long time and I miss it. Since I have been addicted to the computer there are a lot of things I don't do, housework is one of them,. ![]() Tatting is a lost art, I think it should come back full force. I was in a thrift store with a friend and I saw a small dolly in tatting for .50 cents and I had to buy it. I know how much work goes into making these lovely things. My mother had several shuttles, if I decide to try it one day I'll have to beg my sister for one. Life is fragile, handle with prayer. |
22* here now. Snow everywhere. We didn't get as much ice as they thought we would, but another one is on its way. I heard it was 14* here at 8AM this morning. Wind chill could have been to -5*. I didn't hear what it finally got to! Baby, it's COLD outside! |
Tatting isn't especially hard, but it is tedious. My mom used extremely fine thread and used to make me yards and yards of lace for special dresses for the grands and christening gowns I used to make. I used to call her tatting spider webs because it was so fine and fragile looking. |

Good morning sisters. I'm the same way Pegi. When I see something handmade at thrift stores, knowing the hours put into it, I don't hesitate to bring it home. There was this Christmas tree skirt crocheted, and I cannot walk away from it, even though I don't do Christmas trees. ![]() My late granmother tatted table cloths and anti macassars. They are like placemats that you put at the top of chairs' to protect them from the oiled coiffures. Ladies back them used to grease their dos. Unfortunately, my two brothers who inherited my mother's home lost ALL handmade treasures. I tried tatting Karen, but somehow just can't get into it. We attended Kel's cousin and his husband's Christmas party a couple of nights ago. He had put up 103 Christmas trees and each one different from the other. So, there's my tree fix!! ![]() Here are some pics. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
