Mary, cmail me with your address........it's not like the pink one can't spare some starts. LOL I don't know if the cerus is technically an orchid cactus..... Hmmm....let me look and see if I have a pic of the red one. Here is the pink one from a couple years ago when it bloomed. |

I was busy yesterday cleaning and rearranging/organizing my back porch. I bought some cheap frames at the thrift store and decorated them a bit and put some of the kids pictures in them and hung them up out there. I got the idea from that class I took. Suppose to make the entrance fell welcoming to the kids and parents. I bought a table ($3.00 @ thrift shop), put fabric around it and slid the recycle bin under it. Going to Vicki's today. I'll be leaving in a little bit---time to shower and get ready. Hoping you all have a wonderful day (great pics BTW) Sheri |

They're beautiful Anna. The one bloom on my red one was huge but maybe because the plant only produced one? Last year I kept it in the house, no blooms. Maybe it's the light thing, difference between summer and winter light. Or maybe my red one is a different variety? I know almost nothing about them. Thanks much, I'll get the address off to you in a minute. Sheri, that entry is very cheerful and inviting. I've been out to do some watering in the cool of the morning, 52 overnight, the house went from 74 at 10pm to 68 at 5am, not too bad just using fans and open windows plus the nice breeze God provided. I checked the trap I set in the old pickup, yep, mice have moved in, just as I thought. One down, ? to go. Mousie has had a rough ride lately, bumping along in the hayfields. Hope there aren't babies in the heater or under the seat.... Did I catch a gopher in the vegie garden? We'll see. Gotta get moving..... Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most. Very cheery entry SJ. I bet the kids will really like seeing their pictures up there. maybe they would enjoy making a collage of themselves. Maria, one of the (negative) comments on your DG link notes that the Mountain Fleece is related to Japanese Knotweed (which is considered invasive). I have knotweed (and love it) but not necessarily on purpose. It came with the house, was growing on the shady side. When I put in a patio, the guy that did the grading pulled it all out because he filled and graded that area. I was rather disappointed. A year later, after several feet of clay and a layer of sand (with fixative in it) were topped with a layer of brick, it poked its little heads back through. I really like it though because it does not disrupt the patio on the nortwest corner like that but adds privacy (in fact a neighbor comes and gets some for her own yard for that reason) in a shady area where other plants would not thrive and gets lovely long lacey fronds of small white blooms each fall. When I look closely at yours, they do look as though they could be related, I will have to read more about it. The spot I had targeted is mostly sunny but it sounds like it would do well in shade. I have so much more of that! What do you think? Anna, Your cerus are wonderful! I learn something here everyday! No then a bit futher since I don't do Menominee Falls Yes Sheri I do have a GPS but that thing is useless. When I tried to use it to go to Anna's it was hideous trying to watch compute. I almost wanted to put it out of its misery. ![]() ![]() the faster I go, the behinder I get |

It may be related to your plant Jamie, but this one is not invasive it just gets larger and larger each year. I actually have to pull out some of it by the roots all around it so it will not get much larger. After frost I cut the whole shrub down leaving about two feet. When it starts growing again in the spring I remove the old dead stems. Maria "Those who do not learn from the past are condemned to repeat it" G. Santayana |

The comment just said they were related not the same. (They DO look like they could be.) In that regard, I just wondered Maria, if you thought it could thrive well in part shade, your's seems to be in pretty full sun Woman on the eastbound train ...........................................Je Suis Désolé. Yes, mine is in full sum but it will grown with just part sun too. It is a very hardy plant, I hardly ever water it except when it rains, lol. Maria "Those who do not learn from the past are condemned to repeat it" G. Santayana |

well, if we all buy it now, we're going to have to rename it "Maria's fleece" since we are all learning about it from you...starting with Ernie! ![]() Woman on the eastbound train ...........................................Je Suis Désolé. (also a mule lovin', Charley huggin' girl) |
