Thank you Maria! I sure hope I get something for it! It can be some pretty tough competition.

Jeannie, that's beautiful work. I hope you get a blue ribbon or whatever first place is. I'm so impressed with the craft and needle work that is entered although I don't go every year.

Thanks Sheila. Of course, while I was sitting there waiting to be called to turn in my entries, I was picking apart my work - this isn't even, oh there is a spot there, etc. etc. Hilarious!

I see you started a thread with pictures of your gardens!

Yes, I second guess myself too on things like that. Some of the pictures were from June, and many plants are past their prime now and it's looking a bit shabby here and there. Fortunately, there's photo cropping..... Smiling

You are right Anna, Aug 5-15 to be exact. (I looked it up) I'm thinking the entries have to be in this week so the fair people have time to get things labeled and set up? Jeannie should pop in later and then I'm sure she can tell us exactly.

I'll go check out your garden photos Sheila! Photo cropping is great isn't it? I have even "fixed" brown spots on flower petals Rolling on the floor laughing

Yes, Anna, Sheri is correct. For non-perishables (both food and livestock) they do the judging in the weeks before the fair.

Since I have only ever entered livestock at State Fair (back in my youth.....eons ago..... Big Grin ) I didn't know that all the judging, etc. for other stuff was this much earlier. My gosh, I can learn something every day. LOL

Our friends are playing State Fair opening day so Ed and I will be going. I like the State Fair much better than Summerfest and all the other hulabaloo they get going down at the lake front.

Hi Gang!
We've been Tres Busy.
I got caught in the Unemployment deal so have been scrambling.
Looks like it's a done deal now so we can start planning for more than tomorrow.
Buying the 1/4 Steer and Lamb was a good deal. Saved us big time!

Anna LOVE the Cereus.
BTW they are True Desert Cactus w/ a huge tap root to store water.
Schlumbergera/Hatiora/Epiphyllum or Christmas/Orchid/Tree Cactus are designed to shed water as they grow in rain forests mostly.

Sheri Thanks for the Photo Site.

Mainly we've been doing projects.... imagine that! lol!
I'm looking into building Designer Urban Chicken Coops.... hey someone has to do it!
If we decide to do it I'm thinking of calling the company 'City Chicken'.

Gardening is going very well as it's been extremely hot here but we've been having plenty of rain.
Harvested the first tomatoes today.
BLT's are tomorrow's dinner.

I agree I was recently thinking about if we could 'get away with' chickens. I do buy cage free eggs but I have gone to Key West a couple times a year for many years. Chickens live all over town and even though there is controversy with some of the locals, they remain protected. Thus, it is not unusual for traffic to stop for a chicken to cross the road (tho' no one is sure why they do it). Hilarious!

[b]Why the traffic stops for them or why they cross....lol!

Hens are legal in most areas.
Even in our ultra upscale township.
(Well OK we don't live in the upscale part but..... lol!)
There are some amazing coops out there.... but nothing we can't build cheaper and better.... ;-)
