Nothing to sneeze at, it's what kills old folks and invalids during heat waves. I always worry about the old people I see in hot weather wearing jackets and sweaters not getting enough fluids. I'm an old people and you won't catch me bundling up like that. Yet. Smiling

Well, I'm not an old people YET, but I try to be sure I am drinking a lot of water if I am outside for much time at all. Right now the skeeters are so bad, I just run out real quick!

I got my bed spread yesterday for Corey's old room. It will be a guest room when I am done with it. Right now I have been working on getting primer put on everything that needs painting. I haven't picked out the exact paint colors but they will be based on the bed spread:

There are three kinds of dehydration.
1) Too little H2O
2) Too low or imbalanced electrolyte levels and
3) #'s 1 & 2 combined.

#3 is the most common.

If you drink too much water alone your electrolyte levels drop.
Basically they get flushed out. Then different minerals start replacing each other.
Potassium will replace sodium, etc.

When it is this hot and humid I always have some gatorade every day.

Posted this on the other site, but some of you aren't there. When I wandered through the shop on Saturday afternoon when DS#1 was getting his fireworks ready for the show, I saw his "Explosives 1.3 G" signs laying on the table. I gave one to each grand to hold, and Uncle Brett is holding his 2-8 inch shells. Aleigh never did get hers held straight.Thumb of 2010-07-29/AnnaZ/9ffdb4

That's a pretty spread, Sheri. Nice to coordinate the wall color with it. I just put a new quilt on our bed, and Iris has been holding it down so it doesn't escape. Thumb of 2010-07-29/meezers6/034047

Here's that alocasia from Anna, at the RU this year.

Have been out watering, taking pics and killing JB's off the Hibiscus m. that I have had forever it seems. Ordered them 4 or 5 years ago and JB's just love, There used to be a pink and a white but now they are both white..........oh well.

Sheila, my tomatoes look terrible also and so far we've got one good one,, the rest all have end blossom rot. This is the third year to try them and the third year they do rotten,. Strike 3, will never plant tomatoes again.........I do have a red and a few purple peppers.............

I need to go roll up the hose in the back yard, then roll up the hose in the front. Had to come in for a big cup of coffee first, check threads, bbl

Hurray! for you Ric. I'd guess you are more than ready!

Anna, I'm glad you are feeling better. Dehydration is much more serious than most people realize. Bonnie knows that and I bet she faithfully drinks her gatoraide or whatever to keep herself hydrated and her electrolites in balance. Anybody know how she's doing? I don't think she posts on Cubits.

Sheila, beautiful old fashioned quilt. Some of the background in the border appears to match the cat. Isn't it funny how they love anything new!

I'm still trying to catch that darned gopher. He is not welcome here! I keep thinking maybe the cats or owls will catch him, and then another plant disappears. He ignores my trap now, after filling it with dirt a few times. I keep trying, hoping he will get careless.

Yesterday I worked about half the day at the co-op. The fresh produce order was very substandard this week, and when I got there the wholesaler's rep was there looking at it and the co-op manager was making sure he saw all the bad stuff. They wrote off the whole order. Some was salvageable if half was trimmed away, and the rest was pig/chicken feed quality. Volunteers including myself took home bags of stuff. I got 8 softball size cabbages that still need some trimming, half a dozen roma tomatoes, about the same number of kiwi, most of a bunch of celery that still needs to be trimmed, and about a pound of mushrooms that felt slimey from being stored with too much humidity. They were cleaned up, saute'd and put into freezer bags, plus we ate some in the spaghetti sauce. I've seen bad produce still for sale at our big markets, but the co-op has higher standards. They just don't have much to sell this week and no more coming for a few days.
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.

Talking about not decent produce.....I have found that our new WM SuperCenter's produce is not nearly as nice and fresh as Pick 'n Save. I don't buy at WM unless I absolutely have to.

Bonnie is doing just fine.
I hear from her every day or so on the ORVG.
She, her TS and their Families hit Myrtle Beach a few weeks ago.
Now she's in 'canning mode'....

Yep my 457 day weekend is about over..... ;-)

How do you feel about that Tell us Ric and don't hold back.. Hilarious! Hilarious!

Actually, if you are anything like my husband you are welcoming it with open arms. Just 7 days off is murder for him I can't imagine what 45something would do to him, well me either.

Happy for you.

Well Cece I now know that retirement won't be a problem for me.
This is the first time I've had more than 3 weeks off in 40+ years.

Stress aside I had more than enough to keep me busy.
We actually are about 4 years ahead on our projects...lol!
The good thing is I'll be home by about 3:45 so plenty of time to get a few things done.
Plus there is absolutely no overtime anymore. So weekends will be free.

Funny thing is I have to use 2 weeks vacation and 4 PA days before Jan 1st....
I'll feel weird asking off after just getting back on..... LOL!

Thanks, Ric. I figured somebody here would know how she is. Yeah, funny how your vacation has followed you while you were laid off. Take it while the weather is nice, you don't want to be sitting inside staring at snowbanks.

Now see, my husbands company if there is a layoff they make the guys take any paid days/vacations BEFORE any unemployment. "DH has never been in danger of any layoffs due to the fact he is one of the 4 original people in that building from 1973. This is the 3rd name this company had been under and they all did the same thing. First it was RTEm the Magnatek, and now for the past 25 years SPX Waukesha Electric. HIs clock number is 008.............He is an artifact there according to a couple of people I've met. He won't retire till they take his card away. Believe me when I say this. He won't. He's already told me if he retires he'll end up an alcoholic because he doesn't know life without work. Even with the projects we could be doing here, but then his excuse is he needs to keep working to finance all I want to do around here. IDK may be his right, maybe its just an excuse. As long as he's happy and doing what he wants to do...............

Oh I was paid for all my vacation and PA when they 'furloughed' me.
My State Unemployment didn't start for 11 days after I was let go.
Our year is figured on Jan 1st. New vacation and PA start then.
Had I just been furloughed for the expected 30-60 days I still would have been in 2009.
As it's 2010.....

Off to the drug screening......

Those gophers can sure be a pain can't they Mary? I hope you get the critter soon.

Where's Maria?
