|Wow! Browsing today I realized I completely lost this thread (perhaps on purpose when the topic changed because I do not have any cable TV and couldn't follow). I just read it though and it caused me snickers.
Also, it reminded me that in high school (way back in the olden days) I had written a paper on the kinship system in Aboriginal Australia that included a section devoted to tribal marriage parameters so that within a limited community (having not yet been invaded by other cultures) mate selection was defined (and restricted to no closer than 2nd cousins (m.m.b.d.d.)) and specified by by law.
These people were not educated but, even then, managed to figure it out!
I had to dig it up and re-read it (full of typos in the days before word processors and maybe even pre-'white-out'). I wish I could share it with you.
Yes, it was a rather odd topic for an English class and I have no idea why I chose it (perhaps a precursor gesture of my inherent equal rights thing), but it seems I may've embarrassed the marm because aside from circling typos, the only comment it got said, "Interesting".
