My husband is thinking of taking a job in Lawton and we have lived in south central MO all our lives. This is a big move for us, 8 hours from here.
How do you deal with the wind? I was thinking of putting privacy fencing around the yard, does that help to cut the wind? What kind of trees do well there? I am interested in crab apples, sand cherry, red bud, kwanzan cherry-just smaller ornamentals. Will maples do well there?
Can we use a carport? We have a carport but it is metal, wouldn't that take a beating in hail and high winds?
Do you ever have drought times where you are not allowed to water your lawn or gardens? We have never had that here.
I am assuming all my beds will have to be raised, because the dirt is not usable there? Can I till it and mix it with topsoil and compost or is that a bad idea. Is there a good source for compost in Lawton? or mulch? Is it rocky? Can I dig it with a shovel? I want a goldfish pond. OH, my I have lots of questions, please help!

Oklahoma entered the Union as the forty-sixth state in 1907. The name Oklahoma (Red People) is derived from the Choctaw Indian words "okla," meaning people, and "humma," meaning red.
