that was a reference to the site being 'cleared' of atomic waste. She is in Richland south of the site.

Huh. I hadn't heard anything about that. Probably not close to us; we're only about 40 miles south of Canada. Surprised we hadn't heard about it, tho. AND that's a Tom Lehrer song I don't have! I thought I had them all. Hilarious!

Hello. Just found this thread and thought I'd add my 2 cents worth (ya get what you pay for with me.............. Big Grin )

I go to the Amazon Kindle site every 3 or 4 weeks and check out what is new on the "100 free books" list. I haven't bought reading material in ages. Problem is I have to write down what I just "bought" *for free*.............so I don't get mixed up. I don't know how many I move from "archive" on the iPad to "home" and found out I have read them. So, just archive them again. What I need to do is clean out the archives so I don't have those 100 clogging up my list that I've already read.

My iPad goes with me everywhere. Never know when you will have a free minute to read while waiting for someone/something in town. And next week it is going to Mexico. LOL

I've downloaded some free game apps and fun things for my grands to play with. Austin is 8 and Aleigh is 6 and they just LOVE playing with Grammie's iPad. And it gives them something to do when I have to have them in the car with me. I just have the basic model, with WiFi. Didn't need to have the data plan for ginourmous $$ when I usually have wifi access if we go somewhere. Hotels all have it, so I am good to go.

There's some awfully good free books out there, too! I also love the convenience when traveling of having multiple books to read of different genres, w/out having to cart around a huge sack of books. And, as Woofie just learned, it's great being able to get a new book at home w/out having to go out or wait, wonderful in the winter!

Well, I'm kinda partial to bodice-rippers, and there is plenty of what I call "class trash" out there on the free list. And if I don't like it, click it and get rid of it. Big Grin

Hilarious!

I do download some freebies and cheapies. Just finished A Hoe Lot of Trouble by Heather Webber. I think it was $2 from B&N. Kind of trite female sleuth mystery, not bad, but I won't rush to read any more of the series either.

It's a dreary, rainy, foggy day and I need a book. I'm gonna peruse the library website and see what I can find to download. Most stuff there has a long waiting list.

Yeah, you feel more like experimenting when it's free or cheap... nothing ventured, maybe something gained. Big Grin

Well, I've found that they put up free ones that are first in a series..........and I have also found I like the first one. LOL

Oh, and a word to the wise..........DO NOT download "The Briar King"...........it is the first of a series and it has to be the worst book I have EVER read. I couldn't quit, just because I couldn't believe it could get any worse as I went on, but, it sure did. Yuck. Am really glad I didn't have to pay for it.

Exactly Jay.

I just downloaded [The General's Daughter[/b] by Nelson DeMille. Haven't started it yet.

My library has a nice feature where they list ebooks that have just been returned. I like to cruise that list for stuff that is immediately available. That's how I stumbled across The Morgue and Me, which was really enjoyable.

Hilarious! Like the movie I watched the other night. And I've read books that bad... in a way it seems similar to the horrid fascination one experiences driving by a car wreck. Another kind of disaster porn? Hilarious!

Just finished Blockade Billy by Stephen King (downloaded from the library). It was OK.

I've added some sites under the "Links" section (on the upper right hand side of the page) that have free books.

Audio books?

And no, Anna, that doesn't make you weird, it just leaves you out of the conversation. I have the same trouble w/TV shows. It's like you suddenly sprout leprosy all over your face; no one knows what to say anymore. Hilarious!

I'm so glad I'm not the only Harry Potter heretic! I read the first book. Eh, it was ok, but VERY juvenile....and I thought the writing sucked. And I watched the first movie, which was actually quite good. But the rest of it just left me totally cold.

I LOVE Harry! I read all the books, and I don't even have young children! I guess that means I'm a kid at heart. Or that I'm childish. Hilarious!

I'm with you about TV though, Jay. I never watch TV so don't understand a lot of conversations in social settings.
