I have the $79 kindle too and loved it so much I bought one for hubby, and he has started reading every day, something he never did.
Since I love the feel and smell of books I never thought I'd like the kindle so much but I have hardly picked up a real book since I got it.
I keep mine in the cardboard box it came in, but it's starting to get beat up a little bit from traveling in luggage, etc.

The new Kindle Fires went on sale today- 4 different models ranging from $159 to $499. And rumor is that the iPad mini is coming soon.

Did everybody stop reading??? Where is everyone?

I got the new Jack Reacher book from the library today. A Wanted Man by Lee Child. I'm still plodding my way through the Alpine mysteries. I'm currently on The Alpine Uproar.

I also read Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn recently. It's pretty good/

I finished A Wanted Man by Lee Child. Pretty good, if you're a Reacher fan.

Yes, it was good. I listen to Reacher books though. The reader is excellent.

I came into the 21st century yesterday and was able (after considerable let downs) to have wifi in our home. This has opened up quite a bit of opportunity to me.

I am buying a fire hd for browsing and fooling around. Not sure if I will read on it though. Still like my old original kindle.

We have the original fire, pretty cool. It was a bargain! $130 for a reconditioned one. Works great. Nice small tablet, fits in your purse, smaller than an ipad... With your new wifi, you'll love it.

I think I will. I like DS small pad he got from Google, so I went for the small fire. It is just right for me.

Did anyone else pick up the Amazon deal on the Wool omnibus? Pretty good. The first book of the series is free, if you want to sample it.

I did read the first Wool, the short story. I liked it. I read about it in Time mag. or something.

Still only using the fire hd for internet stuff. It is fast to download, fun to watch short videos on, and for just horsing around. Still use my old kindle for reading.

Good free books from amazon...(thriller-action)

Well, rats. The Undertaker is not free on my Amazon website. Sounds kind of fun, too. Grumbling

The problem is I guess, they are free, and then by the time I read them, they are no longer free. Some stay on that free list pretty long.

The Undertaker reads like a Borne movie.

Started working on Stuart Woods books.
Into the stand alone and Stone Barrington Series currently.
There's a ton so it will take a bit. Nice Series.
Our Library has about 50% of them for loan.

Also REALLY like Daniel Silva's stuff!

I am almost finished with the Hannrietta Larks book. (paid) it is really interesting. Sometimes it gets a little scientific then wham, it is an oh my, moment.

It is a story of a woman back in the 50's who has cancer. The dr takes some of her cells for research (without knowledge of her or her family) and discovers these cells multiply and live forever. Her cells, hela, are used in all kinds of experiments for years and years, make tons of money and help the world, while the family lives in poverty and cannot even pay for medical care.

This is a true story.

Just a note. I do prefer to read from my original kindle. The back lighting on the fire is not as easy to read from.

I was thinking of de-registering and selling my first kindle as I see they bring a pretty good price used from ebay. But I think I will keep it and use the fire for internet, games, songs, pictures and email.

I've been putting Our Recipes on the Kindles.
VERY easy to do, from a tethered Kindle.
I just CCP Recipes to a Text Document on Desktop on your 'puter.
Then Copy them to the Documents section on the Kindle.
I started a 'Collection' called Recipes to hold them.

We added a pretty cool book we got at Amazon to Robyn's Kindle.

I have also downloaded personal documents. It Is very easy. Thanks for the link, I will check it out.

I have given my daughter my old keyboard kindle. The fire was harder to read on, due to the backlight, but I changed the background from white to sepia and turned down the brightness. It is much better. I think I even prefer it this way now.

She is excited to have the kindle. Funny, she is the one who bought it for me 3 years ago.
