Yes, the cheap & free are often full of typos, etc. but worth the price! Thumbs up
The House of Mirth is one of those tragic/poignant stories, like Romeo & Juliet, that is somehow still beautiful & uplifting instead of just grindingly depressing.

There's a dvd of House of Mirth. Do not, repeat, do not attempt to watch it. It's ghastly.

And my Kindle with the special offers just paid off in spades. Big Grin Half price on Kindle covers; along with some points from having an Amazon credit card, cost me less than $5. Smiling

Hmmm, not sure what version I have...there are a couple. I tried to watch it, I really tried. Maybe the plot just isn't my cuppa.

Ah, the old one is considered a 'lost film', made in 1918. The one you probably saw was filmed in 2000 & was at least nominated for several film awards. I'm not much impressed by the still shots of the actress who plays Lily Bart... who is supposed to be an absolute stunner & this actress is merely pretty. Then there was a TV movie made of it, staring Charlie Chaplin's daughter Geraldine as Lily Bart... I can't find a picture of her in the role.

Do you like period movies in general?

It is much like Austen in being about 'mannered society', so all very backstabby & cruel.

I don't like much of anything "in general." I like specific things in many genres.

Hmmm, I was going to offer to send you my copy, but I can't find it. I may have already given it away.

I'll have you know I have every video of "Faust" ever produced.
As well as the original "Not of this Earth."
And every movie Lawrence Tibbett ever made (well, except for the one that no longer exists).
As well as every movie of Lily Pons.
Now, don't you wish you were nicer to me? Hilarious!

Isn't that like some kind of necrophilia you've got there? Or is it just a pathetic way of keeping up your self-esteem?... "At least I don't stink to high heaven & have maggots crawling out my eye sockets."

I've got a nephew that just announced on FB that he's writing a zombie romance... how does something w/no brain have a romance... oh, wait, that'd be teenagers.... Hilarious!

I do sometimes wonder about myself, when I consider that most of the men who make my little heart go pitty-pat have been dead for years. I mean, Caruso (be still my heart) has been dead for 90 years now. Whistling Sigh, he WAS adorable! Drooling Hmmm, he probably no longer has any objectionable body odor.....

Well, there's this to be said for it... there's little competition. Hilarious! So, have you visited the notable Caruso sites? Checked for ethereal emanations, ectoplasm, smudges in your pictures... Big Grin
