There's some very interesting info on the loading & firing of muskets & guns in the civil war in the book; many guns had more than one charge packed in, & the thought is that as it was rank & file ordered firing, some men just loaded but didn't fire (I mean, who could tell, right?)...there's a lot of evidence that it's a hard, hard, unnatural thing to kill our own species & it creates incredible trauma in the mind to do it.

"The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America."

"She knew she'd have to be careful."

Maisie Dobbs

Finally got around to reading it, after years of wanting to. Really enjoyed it. Thumbs up Same time period as 'Downton Abbey', so that helped me w/visualizing the characters, etc. Never realized before that one could hear the bombardments from over the channel.

Oh, she'll probably git just fine, especially around dinner time! But your saddle will slip under her belly & you'll find yourself very glad she's so short. Hilarious! Had one of those when I was a kid. Great personality.

The Shape of Water by Andrea Camilleri..."a novel of food, wine, and homicide in small-town Sicily".

OMG, Sally, what kind of romance novels do you read?! We've got to raise your expectations! Hilarious!

I thought that sentence was much more interesting and fun to read, as well as type, than the one in the Canon Pixma Quick start Guide here. Sticking tongue out

I agree

"As I lay there, I heard the lift, and the apartment door, and Clovis saying with irritation: 'Don't blow that foul corner-store marijuana over me.'"

I confess, I had to shop for an interesting sentence....there seems to be a plethora of short, boring, ordinary sentences on page 23 of many of my books. I'm not sure if that says something about me or about page 23... Big Grin

Yes, agreed. I am having trouble finding intriguing quotes. I might do better if I would bother to walk down the hall to the "library", there's nothing but non-fiction in my "office".

I found a good one in an old medical text describing the diagnosis of "dislocated necks", but I fear it would be censored.

Did the sacred boars kill them by breaking their foolish necks? And then quote Shakespeare to excuse their evolutional tendencies? Big Grin How does one become a hero by getting killed by a boar anyway?

"After years of increasingly frustrating attempts to get the unyielding dirt to give back something besides dog fennel & hawkweed, I gave up entirely the concept of planting a garden in the ground."

Good name: shut the lid and forget the contents!

I did think it odd that the boars became sacred by killing heroes... Of course Adonis was sort of a jerk.
