Well, you know our flutes, you've heard their sounds and seen how beautifully they are made. That flute of ours, the siyotanka, is for only one kind of music, love music. In the old days the men would sit by themselves, maybe lean hidden, unseen, against a tree in the dark of night. They would make up their own special tunes, their courting songs.

I love this story! There are so many Native American legends, each of them more beautiful than the next, and this one is surely the icing on the cake.

Thank you so much for sharing it with us.

I love flute music, and have quite a collection. Sometimes it's hard to find but that just makes it even more precious.

I hope you will continue to share the legends with us.

It is so eery to be able to click on a computer and then walk into a circle around a campfire lost in time where wise men share their stories. A story like this one can't help but make the teller and listeners a little wiser, however much less wiser they might have been before the telling. I love how wind and moon and human serendipity and passion all had their roles - not to be drowned out by anything that could be plugged in and blast the neighborhood.

Thank you for this story and its gentle music, and I hope you will share some more while we keep embers glowing 'till spring.

Karen

ps - Cliff, would you consider starting another cubit for Native American cultures in addition to this one? In these troubled times, perhaps their knowledge and wisdom might be needed more than ever before.

Flute music is Very calming. I think that's one of the reasons I love it so much... I play a cd when I find it hard to sleep. I'm gone in no time! Smiling
And you know what they say about practice makes perfect!
Do you sell your flutes?

I know you could Charleen. If I can anyone can. Cliff said you can play an A , G,or F sharp flute, as the holes are closer together. Each on is progressively lower in tone. I love them all. Lovey dubby
Joey you would have no trouble taking up the NA flute. : )
