I saw a few of these birds in a tree in a parking lot in the city. It was extremely windy and the birds were just holding on...all they could do, no flight possible! Hoping for help on an ID. Couldn't find it in my book. It has this dark bluish sheen...just beautiful! Could have gotten better pics without the wind...or better light Will try to get the other pics edited. All my photo software is extremely difficult to deal with since it was updated after I changed computers. I SO miss the old computer.
I don't know about TX, but here they are kind of a nuisance bird, and will chase all the other birds off, so you may be right in not wanting them at your feeders. But, since you are much farther south than we are, please do post when you see the first hummingbird of the season! I love to watch them return every year, and with all the snow we still have, it will probably be July before they want to visit, lol!
I'm looking for the hummingbirds every day! The Carolina Jessamine in the back yard has been blooming like crazy for the last week and every day it's covered with bees and butterflies. That's the plant the hummers head for when they arrive here. The hummingbird feeder turned up empty one morning...but that's obviously the critters that come in the night...probably the same ones that just about emptied the suet thingy that is attached to the fence near it .
Linda I wanted to show you what my hummingbirds are up to right now. She has built a nest on the patio that is at eye level outside the sliding bedroom doors. I will have a great view of the babies! As of today the eggs have not hatched.
