Are there any others in this group who are, or will be considering, writing children's stories? I have a couple of stories started, they are based on personal experiences with my animals. I will need input as to content and I am also looking for an illustrator.

Thanks,
Lynda Swink

Hi Lynda,

Toni writes children's books, maybe older children, and she'll be back soon. I'm sure there will be others who are interested. And we'll certainly make sure it is a topic of discussion.

So good to have you with us!

Hi Lynda,

Welcome to our new design. Hope you find everything you're looking for here. If you don't, just ask and we'll see what we can do.

I have dabbled in juvenile literature in the past, but recently wrote and published a Young Adult novel which has received very complimentary reviews. I'm not an expert in these markets, but can certainly try to answer questions.

The children's market is one of the harder ones to break into, but it's a large and popular market, so the effort and patience is worthwhile. Children's stories with animals are all-time favorites, so you've chosen a good subject.

An excellent resource for finding children's publishers AND illustrators is the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) http://www.scbwi.org/ . It's a very active organization and offers a wealth of information to children's authors.

Toni I am writing a story its titled Back to Lockwood Valley. I have some good qualities in the story but am lacking emotion...Sharon and others here have been helping but they can't give me emotion that has to come from me....my biggest problem is showing emotion. It comes from my broken childhood, I know that, I just don't know how to tear down the wall that has been up for so long.

Can you give me any advice on how I might bring emotion to my story? I have re-written several chapters but thought I would wait until after the holidays were officially over before I posted them to WORDS. The chapters that are there now are not valid now due to the revisions.

When I post it I would like you to read it and offer me criticism and suggestions if possible. I want this to be a good story as I intend to self- publish it.
