You also have a warmer climate than we do so perhaps that contributes to the lake not freezing.

Twin Lakes was formed naturally by melting glaciers (thus, a very jagged shoreline) as opposed to a lake formed by soil erosion (which forms a more even smooth shoreline).

Because it was formed naturally by the glacial water, it has it's own specific ecology. It's always changing and different from year to year. It has natural springs that feed it which are warm. So snowmobilers and ice fishermen stay away from those areas as the ice may not be safe.
