The "Magic Loop" Love the technique, and the book has a good sock pattern for heavy weight socks. I took a class at one of my local yarn shops, despite having been a knitter since I was 12, I'm glad I took the class.
My advice to knitterly knewbies : buy the BEST needles you can afford. Double that advice for circular needles.
Support bacteria, it's the only culture many folks have.

I've finally figured knitting out, but I think I like crochet better, though I would love to make some socks! ;)

I loved making socks but I need to go back and take lessons again. I love to knit but cannot correct my mistakes like I can with Crochet Confused Confused Confused I guess practice makes perfect and I need a LOT of practice.
